So I am at DS1's game and this little 6 yr old girl is very into Mili, well she was ready to sleep so I went to nurse her and this is how the conversation went....

LG: What is she doing under there?

Me: Nursing

LG: What's nursing?

Me: She is Breastfeeding

LG: What's Breastfeeding?

Me: It means she gets milk from my boobs. This is how she eats, not with a bottle.

LG: OH Can I see? (proceeds to expose me to all the men around)

Me: UM NO (pulling the blanket back)

After that I went to the car to nurse in peace.

BF is so foreign to most people. I had to send a note to DS2's school when I went to the zoo with him to let the teacher explain to the boy I had to watch that I would be BFing. Even if I did not BF I would explain to my kids that some babies eat this way so it prevents these kinds of situations. LOL

I think part of it also is that some kids forget by that age. That is how our neighbor boys are and they all bf. There mom had to explain what the lady was doing at the BBQ a few weeks ago. They just said "oh." I really can't see me sitting down with a 6 year old and telling him about bf'ing unless something sparks the conversation you know what I mean?

We always knew what breastfeeding was, but that is because I had a baby sister and my mom bf her.

Yeah, I seen a few of the neighborhood kids do it and never even thought much about it, but I seen it my whole life. Adam probably won't see it much. I am done having kids and when he saw me bf Megan, he just kept saying "boobies!!" He does see my friend bf her child, but never says a thing.

Oh wow... we always knew what it was, because that's how we all were fed as babies... even if it wasn't for very long we got at least 2 months of boobie time.

When my niece was born my boys were 6 and 4, even though she was bottle fed I explained to them that a bottle was just one way to feed a baby. That you could also BF them and my 6 yr old remembers me BF his brother even though he was only about 3 when he was born. I just think moms should tell their kids there is more than one way to feed a baby so if you ever see it they will know. It's not like we are talking about sex here, it is a way babies are fed. I find grown ups are more freaked out than kids because we live in a world where those are sexual objects and not looked at as a way to feed your baby anymore.

Kids are def curious. Everytime I bf Nadia at my sis house before I head home, both of her boys sit on either side of me to "watch". They are both under 6 buts its funny how boys just love boobies at such a young age.

I remember my (then 4 year old) niece wanting to watch me BF James. She was just amazed, even though she was BF and so was her baby sister. I think they do forget.

James was funny in the beginning with Kyra. Whenever I put her on, Mr. Obvious would proclaim, "she's eating. She's drinking milk!" Now he just ignores it altogether.

I have a home daycare and I BF Valerie. I tell the kids she is drinking mother's milk. They seem to accept that. Kinda like a calf drinking a cow's milk.
