High school reunions?
Have you been to yours? Do you plan on going? How about to the 20 year reunion?
OK, so this is my 20 year reunion. I just got an email with the details. My stupid high school is doing a reunion for a couple of classes instead of just '88. But, whatever. Anyway, they are holding the reunion on a Saturday next October. How stupid is that? Ummmm people who live far away will have to travel from out of state. Not to mention those who have kids in school will have to take them out of school just to go to the reunion. IF (and I am speaking hypothetically) I were to go to the reunion. I would have to take my kids out of school for a minimum of 3-4 days. It would take 2 days driving time, each way! So, I'd have to leave on a Thursday morning. We'd arrive Friday. Saturday is the reunion. Then Sunday and Monday I'd be driving home. Just not practical. Of course I could always fly there. Multiply that times 5 for me and kids to fly. OK, that isn't doable either. I'm not paying that kind of money to listen to a bunch of people playing the one-up game. I don't care who has the biggest house, who makes the most money, etc.
But seriously, were they smoking crack when they came up with that date? Really? I swear, the same idiotic people that I did not care for in high school are the ones planning this. Of couse I'm sure that this only revolves around their little lives and they never even bothered to think that there might people who actually moved away from the podunk town we grew up in. OK, so it wasn't a podunk town. But you get my point.
Sorry, I've been drinking tonight (margaritas made by my new Margaritaville machine hehehe) and this whole topic has really gotten under my skin. (DH will be out to sea when the reunion is being held.) He isn't thrilled about the prospect of me going without him. But regardless, I told him that if I drove all that way to NC.....on October 11, my butt would be at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte watching the NASCAR race with Austin and Reilly instead of at some lame *** reunion. Austin is begging to go to another race and I would much rather make my little boy happy.

Re: High school reunions?
My 10 yr was this summer for the school I went to from 1st to the middle of my 12th yr. In the middle of my senior yr my mom and dad divorced and my sister and I were devastated so we were both home schooled. The school we graduated from won't have any reunions. We will go to DH's 10 yr in 6 yrs.
I agree with you though, it is stupid for them to have it in Oct and I would not take my kids out to go or spend the money to fly.

Re: High school reunions?
I didn't go to my 10 yr as I think that was the time I was preggers with Amy.
I went to DH's and it shocked the ladies he had a female let alone a wife! He never had a steady girl in high school, he was shy and stayed to himself. Some were just as snobby and slutty looking (I can't believe what I saw). Granted some of them were looking and kept an eye on my hand as I don't have a cheap wedding set! Servers those b**ches, they passed up a great guy, awesome daddy and wonderful lover
I can't wait for a few more yrs and we go back to his...I am planning on looking better than ever and seeing what they think then (especially after having 2 girls)!
I know if I ever go to mine I will shock everyone I knew!

Re: High school reunions?
I did not go to my 10 year. I thought about it but my sister had gone to hers and said that nobody had really changed. She said it was ALL about who had the most money etc...
She was the popular cheerleader in HS, so it seemed like she would have been all over it. But no, she went and said it was lame and everyone was pretty much the same. She said most people were just starting to have babies etc... but for the most part people were exactly the same.
I think October is a horrible date, though. I wonder what the logic in that was? Weird. I live right outside of Charlotte and used to live in Concord, and I have never even been to a Nascar race!! The traffic is awful when its season. But, when you come back to this area, I would love to meet up!!

Re: High school reunions?
Nope, I didn't graduate... I dropped out when I was 17 to work full time to help my mother who was a single mom & got my GED when I was 19. Even if I had graduated I wouldn't go to a reunion I wasn't on the best of terms with anyone because they thought it was funny what happened @ Columbine & 3 days after 2 guys got arrested @ my school because they wanted to do the same thing @ that point I'd just had it & didn't go back I turned my part time job into full time. I turned 18 over that summer so, it wasn't a big deal that I'd dropped out @ 17.

Re: High school reunions?
Wow! That was an awful lot of bitching, wasn't it? LOL In a ridiculously drawn out way, I was trying to say that I thought they were being inconsiderate. Perhaps they really don't want many people there. Sorry for letting the tequila do the talking.

Re: High school reunions?
I plan to. If nothing else than to show off my cute kids. But then again, for a class of 100 people there were a LOT of snobby preps. So maybe not. There are people I would like to see and talk with again, not friends but acquaintances, kwim? There is light talk of doing a 5 year, but that's not too likely. I know my best friend will NOT go because she got treated like poo too, and isn't as ignorantly resilliant as I am. I just know that I do NOT have any desire to finish school, and I will get looked down on for not having a college degree in SomethingIWillNeverUse. We'll see in 5 years.

Re: High school reunions?
This June will be 5 yrs since I graduated, not sure if they do a 5 yr but they definitely do a 10 yr and I am still undecided about it. Chad wanted to go to his 10 yr but we were living in CO at the time and would have been hard for us to get back to RI for that. Chad and I both went to the same high school....he graduated in '96 tho and me in '03

Re: High school reunions?
My 20th reunion is in August this year. (YAY class of '88). It is a weekend event too- but I live 30 min from my home town- my parents and MIL still live in town. My hubby is class of '87 and we went to his last year and had fun. Mine has cocktails Friday night, the formal dinner on saturday night and a family picnic on Sunday- the family picnic was my favorite-you get to see everyone with their kids and that was a blast. Since so many are having kids later (like we did) there were tons of little ones there.
My 10 yr reunion was FABULOUS. we had such a blast. It is so much more fun when your hubby knows everyone too. I felt beautiful too. My reunion is why I am so determined to lose the weight. I've been doing WW and working out. I am seeing a huge difference in my body. I hope I can look wonderful by August.
I am very glad I went. Actually I will be helping with this reunion. I still talk to many from high school and know the committe members.

Re: High school reunions?
We had a 5 year and a 10 year. The 5 year was at a bar I was kinda a regular at and seen no reason to spend $50 to go. 10 year, we were out of town. I live in the same town, so I see most of my classmates around. At least the ones I want to anyway.

Re: High school reunions?
I always feel like an old lady here! But all my friends had babies with me...so we are all upper 30s with little ones. I look and feel like early 20s! No one believes I am going to be 38 in a few weeks.

Re: High school reunions?
Wow! That's awesome! I have days where people think I'm lying when I say I am 20 and they think I am still in high school, and then there are days when people think I'm lying so I won't have to drink when I go out to bars. It's crazy!

Re: High school reunions?
Good. I thought I was the youngest
Cady - when will you be 24? I graduated in 2003 also.
While I was pregnant I would get some questioning looks and dirty looks. Some people say that I look older than I am, some say I look like I'm a teenager. I think it's the chubby cheeks and the fact that I wear no makeup. When my fingers were swollen I was upset because I couldn't wear my rings and I also got some looks from people who looked at me like I was an unwed, pregnant teenager working at the Wal-Mart. lmao
