Default Best advice you've ever received about marriage?

Getting married is kind of like having a baby, you can't really explain it to someone, they have to experience it. But you can give some advice on being married and I'm sure we've all received advice from our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, friends, etc.

Tell me how long you've been married and what's the best advice you've ever received.

I unfortunately didn't have a mom when I got married (she passed away when I was 25), but I've been married almost 18 years and the best advice I have is to treat the small stuff like the small stuff. Don't argue or put your foot down for stuff that doesn't matter just to prove a point. Save putting your foot down for the stuff that really, really matters to you. Because if you don't argue about the little stuff, then your husband will know you're serious and really mean business when you do

Marriage is the joining of two lives, but that doesn't mean that you have to lose yourself. (This is my 2nd marriage and this was advice I got after my first that I should've listened to)

Just wanted to dd this is a great question thanks for posting the thread!

My husband always says joking around that the best advice he can give is always to say "Yes, Dear" but i have to say the best advice i got was to always treat each other as your best friend and to never lose yourself.

congrats on all of our marriages and hope their are many year of happiness ahead.

I received a ton of cliche advice...can't say that any of it was groundbreaking, memorable, or great. I'm sure there was some good stuff in there, but most of it we already had covered.
