Hi ladies, Victoria here, the local (I can you can call me) herbalist...and I thought I'd throw out a little info that you all might find interesting and useful!!
Gardens are great for our tasty veggies, but you can also grow some great herbs to be used in some basic home remedies!! Another great way to get these herbs is to collect some from the wild! But for those that don't know what they're looking for, there are some great herbs/flowers to add to your garden.

The worst part is, many people think that herbs have to be ugly and unattractive. Many medicinal ones even have bright flowers.
Here is a great starter list, and some things they are good for:
Holy Basil - used to treat stomach problems, and can be rubbed on a bee sting
Tansy - EXTERNAL ONLY - use as an astringent to treat skin conditions
Bee balm - not only good for that bee sting, good for colds, fevers, coughs, nausea, indigestion and menstrual cramps
Lemon Balm - Great all around herb. Great wash for cuts and scrapes, good for tonics
Mint - good astringingents, but also great teas to help sooth stomach problems
Mullein - Most versatile herb, and you canuse it all. Great for cuts, bruises and scrapes, as well as a great diuretic and liver tonic
Roman Chamomile - Relaxes, good for relieving headaches, reducing depression and sleep disorders
Thyme - great astringent
Sage - a great astringent, and can be used for hair washes as well as treating nervous disorders
*CAUTION* Use sparingly, if at all, while pg and breastfeeding - will cause milk to dry up
Yarrow - antiseptic properties - great for cleaning out wounds to prevent infection, and also has pain relieving properties
Lavender - relaxer, used to treat nervous disorders
Roses - hips are used to prevent colds, as well as to treat a cold and the flu
Parsley - great diuretic and to be used to help with weight loss
*CAUTION* DO NOT USE DURING PREGNANCY!! This causes uterine contractions which can lead to a miscarriage or preterm labor
Echinacea (Purple cone flower!) - wound healer, and great to boost the immune system
This list is no where near all of the wonderful uses you can have. But it's some things that are great to add to your garden. Some might already be there, and you just didn't know of their great extra properties!!
