Icon5 Flu shots- regular and H1N1

Will your Halfpint or Snowflake be getting one or both of these shots this year? Thoughts on why or why not?

I am in disagreement with dh over the H1N1. I am not a fan of super new vaccines because things have not always panned out well for them (like the rotavirus one getting pulled a few years back for causing intestinal blockage). He argues that every year the flu vaccine is new because it is formulated to work with the strain they expect to be the problem. Of course, that circles back to me choosing not to get even the regular flu vaccine because of that.

I have heard more since then about how some of the H1N1 versions are going to contain mercury and other additives that are things I intentionally avoid. Some of them won't have it but it may take some work to land your hands on one that doesn't have the additives.

Ds1 and dh always get the regular flu vaccine (mist for ds1). I will probably get it for ds2 and maybe even me. We'll see. I feel more comfortable with it than the H1N1 one. I also believe that the regular flu is of worse risk than the other. No one knows how either will play out so it is all guess work for all of us, imo.

So, I had been feeling ok with my plan but I am now worried about whether ds2's preschool is going to require it. Evidently NJ (not where I live) is requiring it for preschools and daycares. I got word a week ago that ds2's preschool adopted a very strict vaccine policy in July so I don't know if they will require it or not. I;m more than annoyed that they are making things mandatory because I feel like it's a decision between me and my pediatrician, who is ok with the alternate schedule we have been doing (he has most everything, just waiting till closer to 2 to finish up). I don't want him to have to get a shot that I am not comfortable with, kwim.

Anyway, those are my quandaries and concerns. Anyone else thinking about how they'll handle things?

Beth
