Default Normal?

Kenzie seems to have some texture issues.. But not every food. For instance: She LOVES Gerber Graduates little crunchies- I put them in a few pieces since she shoves the whole thing in her mouth. She's had a french fry(Patty cheered my paranoid butt on, ) and did OK with that.. But sometimes, she seems really bothered by chunks?

For instance, tonight she begged and begged for pieces of my dinner- so I gave her a small bite of mashed black beans and she promptly spit it back out! Hahah!

Also, I tried Gerber Organics Pasta Primavera(stage 3) and she ate the mushy part and with each bite spit out the pasta? Do they outgrow this? Is she just picky? She doesn't seem to have an issue if she feeds herself: Little Crunchies, Puffs, steamed veggies, toast, Mum-Mums(Which I hate since she bites HUGE bites of and has choked each of the 3 times I've tried them.. not again).. I think that's all the finger foods we've tried so far? Any ideas to get her to like them.. Or do they just get it one day?

I can't give advice because this mama is far too paranoid to give anything but purees. She'll be eating purees until she's 17..... Brooke even has texture problems with the pureed jarred meats. I'm sure she'll be just like Kenzie when we start the lumpy stuff!

Its something she will get over. She doesn't like the texture. I pureed some steamed broccoli and they hated it. Then yesterday at Mac Grill I took the heads of broccoli off and gave them the stems and they loved it. So it was the texture of the broc they did not like. They dont like grainy stuff. I dont think she is picky. Try some pasta that she can self feed and she will probably love it. Thats why she liked the fry

Hadleigh would never eat the stage 3's....instant vomit!! She gave up the 2's and went right to small bites of regular food. I think I might do the same with Hayden once his is over the 1 year mark. I give him small bits of things but not very consistant about it. I am sure K will out grow it or just never eat the mushy stuff.

Have you tried to over cook some pasta on your own and let her mash that with her gums? I remember doing that for Hadleigh and may try it next time with Hayden. JAT

Thanks for the pasta suggestion. I need to try that when we have spaghetti.. Would you give them a bit of sauce, too?

Today, after lunch, I gave her 1/2ed blueberries and each time I fed it to her she gagged- but when she fed herself she did fine...Hmmm? The puffs are def bigger than anything else I try to give her and she doesn't choke on those!

I dont do any sauce, but that mainly cause I dont want to clean it up!

Today I was eating left over chicken scallopini and they were both eying me so I shared and they loved the pasta and the capers and the artichoke...

I would let her do it more if she is not gagging when she is self feeding. Mine would rather me feed them. They look like little birdies with their mouths open. I bet she does better when she self feeds cause she is feeling it before it goes in her mouth so she is learning the texture with her hands so she is better prepared.

Mason is the same. It is driving me crazy!!! The older 2 never had issues with texture. If I try pasta or anything "soft" like that puke city!!!! But he does fine with puffs, cheerios, ect. Mason will only eat maybe 1/2 a jar of stage 1 jar. He is just not that into eating.

My oldest dd had a lot of texture issues. She still choked on a lot of solids like diced carrots and corn kernels when she was over a year old. She also gags and vomits very easily, but she outgrew the texture issues as she got older. I don't think it is picky eating at all, just that it feels strange or wrong when they try to chew and swallow.
