Gosh, I hate health insurance
I swear, every year it gets worse.
Last year, due to DH's ongoing medical condition and the fact that IVF is not covered by my insurance (despite the fact that they have "infertility" as part of their covered expenses), we spent about $18K out of pocket for the year. I was appauled at how much we had to spend out of pocket, especially considering that I pay about $5000 a year just FOR my medical insurance.
Well, DH got a bill from his doctor's office for $165, which is really not a big deal, considering some of the bills we got last year ($2500 for one IV-treatment for him). When he called Aetna, they said, "Oh you need to pay the deductible before we will start covering at 80% and the deductible for you is $2000" Holy crap! Our family deductible is $6000! So in other words, we have to pay $2000 per person out of pocket before they start covering at 80%!!!!! I cannot believe that. That's crazy to me......
