Cake Smash or not?
I have read on different forums over the past couple of months, that there seems to be a bit of a trend to not let babies "cake smash" on their first birthday. These mommies want their tots to eat cake with a fork, like a normal child....
What do you think?
Do you plan to cake smash or not?
Why or why not?

Re: Cake Smash or not?
A FORK?? At their FIRST birthday?? Um, NO! How dangerous is that?? I give a spoon, but more oft than not, it gets thrown in excitement A *normal* child will get excited about cake. I can't even believe that this is a *debate* Babies feel their food, it's part of learning!

Smash, Smash, Smash! With lots of pictures! It is the BEST part of the 1st birthday party IMO! Our local grocer givers a round cake for the baby to have all by themselves! I can;'t wait!

Re: Cake Smash or not?
He can do what ever he wants as long as it does not involve a fork!!!!! It is his birthday after all. Some people just want there babies to grow up way to fast...JMO.

Re: Cake Smash or not?
ITA - whatever the babies want to do with the cake. OF my foster twinfants one totally got into the smashing of the cake (boy) and the other wanted to be fed (girl). We even have pictures of her looking at her brother in disgust.
I put them both in just a diaper on the tile floor with their individual cakes in front of them and let them go at it.

Re: Cake Smash or not?
I see no reason to make a special cake for that purpose. Why can't they just eat a piece of the big cake? I could care less how the cake gets eaten, btw. Smash away. I'm just not making a 2nd cake for that purpose. I don't think I get the trend.
Oh, I think I misvoted and misunderstood! I have seen people post pictures of mini cakes for babies to have on their b-day and I thought those individual cakes were called smash cakes. I have no expectation for a kid to eat their cake with a fork. C'mon now- really?

Re: Cake Smash or not?
We won't have a separate cake for the smashing, but I let my kids dig into their cakes at every birthday. A lot of hard work destroyed in a matter of seconds, but their enjoyment is so worth it.

Re: Cake Smash or not?
I have so many brothers and sisters...we are always having a birthday! Landon really digs cake and ice cream. My step mom always gives him bites and who am I to stop a grandma from spoiling her grandkid? But we will get one of those little round cakes from the bakery and Im sure Landon will demolish it! I cant wait to see it!

Re: Cake Smash or not?
Huh? A fork? At a year old? Silly. Just silly. A spoon for fun is just fine. But a fork? Some people are just way too silly
