South Beach Diet
Has anyone tried this diet out, if so what were your good and bad points about it?
I am really thinking to try it out very soon, maybe next week? I know on other websites they say the hardest part of the whole thing is the inital 2 weeks when you cut out all carbs and the side effect is feeling very fatigued and weak. Not fun! But on the other hand, you lose quite a bit of weight due to no bad carbs. So thats a good modivator.
What do you girls say about this diet?

Re: South Beach Diet
I say no. Unless you plan on cutting carbs out forever. Eventually you will gain it back when you start eating carbs again. I am going to join WW, I would rather learn portion control and healthy eating. though!

Re: South Beach Diet
I have tried WW and lost weight but what got me was the counting every little morsel going into your mouth! I got tired of that very fast and just couldnt keep up with the whole plan.
So I am looking for something that works and you dont have to count or buy there foods.

Re: South Beach Diet
I have a good friend who did South Beach before she got pregnant and lost 85 pounds. She raves about SB and is on it again to lose the baby weight she gained.

Re: South Beach Diet
I use Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople
It is a great website. Totally free. I keep track of what I eat and the exercise I do. You can put in your own food or use their menus.

Re: South Beach Diet
I lost 10 lbs on South beach for my wedding. I gained all right back though within a month. Cutting out carbs is fine, but it has to be a lifestyle change or you will just gain it all right back.

Re: South Beach Diet
Lurking from BIN...
Check out Weight Watcher's Core plan. It's similar to South Beach but not as restrictive, yet it's WW without point counting! I cannot stand to count points. Done it six or seven times and never could stick with it.
BUT I lost 60 lbs in 8 months on Core before I got pregnant. I've been on every plan under the sun and this is the only one I can stick with. I can honestly eat this way forever.
It focuses on lean meats, fat-free dairy, veggies, fruits, healthy oils, and healthy carbs, like oatmeal, couscous, barley, etc. You can even have whole wheat pasta, brown rice, or potatoes once/day. You can eat popcorn! You can have lattes made with skim milk! The idea is that you learn to eat until you are satisfied, which is easier than it sounds. It's pretty hard to overeat on Core foods...I mean, how many apples can you eat in one sitting? LOL
I just love it! It's really, really a great plan. I highly recommend it!!!

Re: South Beach Diet
I think I will try the core plan. Sounds even better than the points plan that I just cannot commit to long term!

I am doing something very similar. It's from a weight loss clinic here in my town. I started on 3/13 and have lost 13 pounds. I am a major Mt. Dew addict. I could just drink it all day and never eat. I am allergic to artificial sweetners so I can't do diet sodas or other sugar free things unless it is made with splenda. I allow myself either one soda or one cappuccino(french vanilla) a day and it has helped me stat on track. I am also going to Curve's 3 days a week.
My mom has done this for about 5 years. She lost about 60 pounds and has pretty much kept it off. If she notices that her weight goes up a little she cuts her carbs back a bit. You can make it work but you have to make it a lifestyle change and not a diet for a short amount of time.
Goodluck to you! I know how hard it is.

Re: South Beach Diet
I am doing something similar on my own. I eat lean meats, lots of veggies, whole-wheat pastas, breads and wraps and snack on fruit. For drinks I make iced tea with splenda or use Crystal Lite. My favorite snack is 100 calorie popcorn minibags and sugar-free jello with fat free whipped cream. I started at the first of the year and I'm down from a size 24 to an 18.
It's hard, but you can do it! I agree with Jaci in that it is a lifestyle change. If one thinks of it as a "diet" the weight usually comes right back on once the "diet" is over.

Re: South Beach Diet
Have you heard of Eating clean? Tosca Reno has a book out...it's not as restrictive, but it gives you a list of good carbs/bad carbs etc. I have alway followed a high protein/low carb diet. I just don't eat (okay i try not to, but those bf cravings are horrible) white stuff (flour, sugar). My carbs consist of whole wheat or complex carbs. I lost 65 pounds after Kaila with just changind my eating habits.
I am a firm believer that the way we look consists of 80% of diet and 20% exercise. I definately recommend checking out Body for life book/cookbook and the Eating Clean book.

Re: South Beach Diet
ahh, yes, Tosca Reno also has started a Clean Eating magazine. I haven't seen it on stands yet up here, though.
