This is a discussion on First day on the job...and I QUIT!!! within the October 2007 - Harvest Handfuls forums, part of the Born in 2007 category; Seriously, they think I am at lunch right now, but I'm at home...contemplating what I will say when ...
Seriously, they think I am at lunch right now, but I'm at home...contemplating what I will say when I call them and tell then I'm not working for them...lets see...reasons why this job sucked....
1) I alone would be watching 15 kids ages 3-5
2) The children I would be watching were completely out of control. One told me he "hated me" even though I was the nicest one there to him.
3) I got yelled at when I picked up my baby who was on the floor crying for a half an hour while everyone ignored him and was told to "Put him down and help with the other infants!!"
4) I was told the childcare would actually NOT be paid for, so I would be making practically nothing and have to pay for CRAPPY childcare.
5) I got yelled at when another person put a child in time out during naptime "WE DON"T PUT KIDS ON TIME OUT DURING NAPTIME!!!!!"..."I didn't do it actu..(intuerupts) "JUST GO GET HIM A MAT!!!!"
6) I got literally yelled at by another teacher for seriously asking where someones blanket was..and this was the first time I ever met the B*****!
7) Brennan was PEE soaked through 3 layers of clothing..
8) When I was holding another infant one of the girls handed me a bottle for him that was too hot for even me to drink, I quickly added cold water/
9) I had to watch as the other teachers literally SCREAMED at the children and grabbed them and slammed them into the walls, some even got cussed at and told they were demon kids.
10) I then got told I was being too nice to the kids and I need to "use my voice" or they will never respect me, sorry I don't raise kids that way.
11) Rather then singing the kids a nice song child know...they RAP to them. I KID YOU NOT!
The ONE good thing...
1) they gave me an hour lunch, just enough time to grab Brennan, get in the car, call Topher and cry, and drive home.
I'm waiting a month then reporting them to the BBB...They should NOT be putting hands on other people's children. I can't do it now because the manager is SCARY and freaking evil and he would probably hunt me down and kill me. I'm sure there is sooooo much more I forgot to add...I know for a fact there were more then 11 dislikes. This place was corrupt.
THIS daycare.....is the reason I hate the idea of putting B in one.

Oh my goodness!! How awful! I hope you do report them. They sound terrible. Do know that all daycares are not that way. If you do have to put B in one some day, you will find one that will take good care of him. It would be nice to find another similar situation, though, at a happier place. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time!!
No way!! That is HORRIFYING!! I f I were you, I'd report them ASAP. Think of all of the baby's you'd save. This is crap that could RUIN a child into adulthood! SLAMMED THEM INTO WALLS?!?! WTF?!
Everything happens for a reason. And I truly believe the reason why you got this job was so that something could be done about this "HELL" people are sending their poor little innocent babies/children to. I don't even know what else to say...
OMG! I'm in tears reading this! That is soooo horrible! I don't blame you for one second for quickly walking (running) out of that place!
I know you will find something better MaryBeth. Just keep looking and something better will come your way. I would keep looking at the possibility of being a nanny-either at your place or someone else's house. Some nanny jobs pay really well. I know when we hire a nanny to watch our kids during wedding season they end up making a pretty good amount for the day (more than minimum wage).
Last week I actually started watching my 2 year old niece & 4 year old nephew full time at my house. It definitely has it's ups & downs but at least i'm getting paid for it & I am in charge unlike the daycare center where you have people yelling at you and telling you how to do things.
Good luck hun and you definitely did the right thing! (((Hugs)))
7) Brennan was PEE soaked through 3 layers of clothing..
That alone would have had me hittin the door! I'm sorry MaryBeth...sounds like another shatty day. Unfortunately they don't pay daycare workers enough money (most of them) so they get employees that really shouldn't be taking care of kids. It's good that you know now....maybe you should think about watchin kids at home and take out an ad....in the paper, put one up at your apt, or at a local grocery, post office, or school.
Does Topher have a set schedule? Can you find something part time around his hours so that one of you can be at home with Brennan? That's what DH and I do. I only work about 15-20 hours a week part time on DH's off hours (usually 3-4 days a week I go in around 6am and get home around 11am) and then DH goes to work at around 1:30pm. Sucks sometimes but we don't have to put the kids in daycare. Lots of retail stores have early hour part time positions....like setting up for sales or unloading trucks with new merchandise....that's what I do, not very glamorous but it helps pay the bills!! Good Luck Momma, I'll be thinkin about you.
omg mb this is why i am terrified to leave reilly anywhere!
i'm sure not all places are like that, but most moms and dads don't know one that is from one that isn't, because they don't get the insiders view like you did. totally scary!!
don't wait...report them to child protective services..not the bbb..you need to protect those kids.
That's really terrible. I'd definitely call in. If you're nervous about it, maybe you can explain to the authorities that you are afraid of the manager. It's crazy they wanted your little baby's care to come from your paycheck, and nobody would even take care of him. Poor ltitle guy! I don't blame you one bit for leaving.
I'm lurking from BIMay, but I swear this post made my stomach turn! I worked at a preschool daycare for years and in California they are all monitored by "licensing," which is basically like preschool police. You should definitely report them. You could even mention that the director seems like possible threat if you are worried about him. Or you could just remain anonymous. Everything you mentioned violates childcare laws and they should not be operating a day care. Seriously, what a bunch of scum bags, that is so sad! Sorry you and your baby had to experience that. Just think of all the poor moms who don't know what their kid is subjected to when they leave them there.
I agree with others though that most child care centers have much higher standards.
OMG...I am just speechless! And horrified! I agree that you should report to as many folks as you can! Those poor kids. As a mother I would be glad to know someone was looking out for my kids!
I hope you are able to find another job. *hugs* you've had a rough couple of days and I hope they get better.

That is awful!!! I think you should definitely turn them in. Your post makes me soooo thankful for the home based daycare I take Rylee and Raegan to. Good luck!
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel horrible for you, your little guy and all those other children still there. Without a doubt - report them! I can't believe that is what is going on in that place, that is horrible and so heartbreaking.
If I was in your shoes, I wouldn't be going back either.

oh goodness I am sick to my stomach. please call and report them right away - those poor parents are actually paying for their kids to be treated that way. I would just die if I found out Erin was somewhere like that.
Well....I called and reported them...I can't help but to feel I put my family in danger. I have a HORRIBLE feeling about this guy. I told them that, they took all my info.
And YES it has been a bad week....still NO period, and I got sick again this morning!! I am Sure I am preggo. If my period is not here in a week I am taking another test.
I am so so so glad you did not bring Brennan back into that environment. After having worked in a daycare setting I know this is NOT at all typical or acceptable in any way. I feel awful for those poor kids. They must really put on a good show when parents walk through that door. Ugh I am just disgusted to hear anyone treating those kids in that manner....especially the infants. They're so helpless. Don't give up on the daycare thing. Hopefully you will have learned what to look for in a new center.
