I apologize if topic came up already and I missed it, but what if anything are you planning for the big first birthday? I want to do something since I have a hard time conceiving and Emma could be my only baby. I want to do something to have MY memories and take pictures of and whatnot. Problem is, my mom HATES my DH. Let's not even open that can of worms, my momma I love dearly but she has issues. So, doing something with everyone just won't work. I can't leave DH at home and go have a party with my parents. I'm confused. Maybe Emma and I will take off and have a party with just the two of us. That solves it. What about you guys?

I knew I loved you before I met you, I think I dreamed you into life, I knew I loved you before I met you, I have been waiting all my life...
I don't know yet. I'm debating on a small or large party b.c it's very easy for Elijah to get overstimulated. More than likely it will be at my mom's house ...other than that- no thoughts!
Hopefully your mom and dh could put aside their differences for Em's big day. Your mom needs to understand that your DH will always be her daddy.
I will probably do something small...which I feel very guilty about because we had fairly large parties for the 3 other kids. We just don't have the money, time, we live farther out now, and I look back at those parties and wonder what was I thinking?!?!?!
I'm actually taking my soon to be 7 yr. old DD to American Girl for her b-day so I don't have to do a kids party.
I imagine that it would be difficult if I had any other kiddos to worry about. American girl sounds fun. I saw the parents do that on Jon and Kate + 8. Perfect for little girls.
Cassie, I appreciate what you said about DH being Emma's daddy. Don't want to bash my mom on a public board, but she has never met him. She's asked for TONS of money from DH and I, and we gladly helped her (I would always help my mom, but DH didn't have to) and she has never even bothered to meet him. It's very difficult. He's definitely got issues, but he has a good heart and tries.
I don't know, hopefully mom could surprise me and realize it's about Emma, not any of us adults.
All I know so far is Emma is getting cake. Other than that, I am sure it will be small. I guess it doesn't matter as long as we get the day on video. Can you guys believe the first birthdays are creeping up on us? I mean, this time last year I was pretty preggo. I miss that! I want another.

Reason: left out word
OMG...I feel like just yesterday we were finding out who was having what sex at the big ultrasound...now here we are talking about 1st Birthdays! This is all happening way too fast. What happened to our little infants?
I was thinking of doing a similar post. I'm thinking we're going fairly big. We didn't have a house for Kev's first b-day and I felt like we really missed out on the experience. We'll have family and close friends over but I want fun decorations and whatnot. I'm sure it'll be some sort of diva theme because that just screams Caitlyn.
As for your mom and DH, doesn't that kind of stuff get annoying after awhile? I can't stand when my mom gets hung up over petty bs, which she does all too often. She's a crabby lady who can't see much good in people (she likes my DH, though). I just have to roll my eyes at her. I'm sorry you have to deal with that situation but hopefully sweetie Emma will have a fun day regardless.

Heck, chip in and Erin and I will fly out for it.
I want to do a decent sized party for Erin, We went small for the christening b/c my B/Sil set a precedent. But I would love a big Halloween themed party.
Nicole, thank you so much. You have NO idea the guilt my mom lays on me. If I see DH's family, she flips out. Unfortunately, living with my parents for those couple of months I learned some ugly truths about my mom...She has a lot of childhood issues and I have learned that she lies all the time. My grandma told me (her mom) how she lied about TIm and I to the whole family, church, basically anyone she could tell so that they didn't like him either. That was a HUGE part of our marital problems. All my life I enabled my mom and DH hated it. I always took out the guilt and anger on him, I actually see DH and I's time apart as a great thing. It opened my eyes that my mom is welcome to her opinions, but they should not dictate my life. I would do almost anything for her, and I love her, but lines are having to be done for this exact reason. It's terrible to stress about a birthday party for Em because of these issues. Anyway, not to go on and on. Sorry.
KL, you know WAY too well! Blow out for my princess! I would love to see you and Erin there!!!
