I am a FTM and my son is by donor. Just got tired of waiting for the right guy and wanted a baby and after 4 yrs of trys I got a great one.

Welcome here 'feel free to post as much as you want your a single mom like us and some of us may refer to us as our kids fathers 'sperm donors' since most of barely hear & see or never see them . just like some may get child support and others none .

I think its cool that you became a single mom by choice so did you use a sperm bank and get donor sent to your home or doctor office ?

Do you work and do you have family to help you ?

I chose a donor thru a bank that my RE suggested and they have approved. It was all done at the hospital.

I have family and friends here. I have been doing most of this solo though because of illnesses in friends and work schedule of my family. My friends didnt want to get the baby sick.

That is a great story I am sure baby Ryan is very loved. He is beautiul. Isnt it the best thing having a newborn? How has he been so far? Are you back to work yet? Have you worked out childcare?

I have enjoyed every minute of his little life so far. He is a great baby and only crys when he is hungry or wants to be loved. He scooches his little legs when he is dirty. I have 6 more weeks of time off since I could afford to take the whole 12 that is allowed by FMLA. And he jokingly, if I could win the lottery I would never go back.....LOL

I have a day care picked out and I need to recheck them since I havent been there since I was 4 mo preg.

That is great. Do you also have family near by to help out? I know how hard a newborn can be. I would love another baby and a doner at this point maybe the only way to go.

My family lives within 30 miles of me.

A donor is great because IMHO there is no one to argue with or worry about custody with, the only down side is not knowing what they look like and looking at you child wondering what traits are his.

how good were the doctors working with you -I would love to have another child but does it get paid by insurance or did you have to pay the amount on your own

The Donor IUI that I did through my clinic where my health plan is accepted was a mix of what was paid and not paid. I only paid 10 extra on my co-pay for appointments since it was a specialist and most of my appointments then were covered. medications were not covered and so I ordered my injectiables from overseas where they are much cheaper. My ultrasounds and blood work were somethings that I had to pay some on and of course the sprem wasnt cheap. The site I ordered from had various prices depending on what info you could get on daddy. I am so curious as to what he looked like and such but I wasnt going to pay an extra 150 dollars a vial for that or 300 to 500 extra a vial for a possible meet when he gets of age. I bought 6 vials because it was cheaper for shipping than buying 3 at a time but I now have 2 vials left in storage at the hospital that I will need to make a decision on sooner or later. If I can afford another child and still want another child in a few years then I will try again if not then the little swimmers might just get flushed.

I can say also that the 1st 2 years I tried I went through a clinic in Dallas Texas that is reknown for their getting women pregnant (and I did the 1st year and had a M/C 8 wks later) but I had to pay cash for everything since my insurance wouldnt cover anything and it was about 2000.00 a try. I will add that I thought that they did alot more in my appointments with U/S and tests than my RE at the local clinic. But I am a mommy now using the local guys so who knows.

i agree ryan is absolutely adorable kids are sweet as babies then they 'sweet as preschoolers too in a year i'm going to be taking pics of my boy preschool graduation-grow too fast - school days make days go so fast if 4 yrs go this 'fast' imagine how 'fast the 'next 4 yrs will go' then after that will be me say 8 yrs go so fast then 4 yrs will be almost teenager then in the next 4 yrs he would be one 'year from graduation of highschool & be 'driving a car ' he will be luckier than me because he will get to be able to 'drive' I have disabilties ' so I can't drive' but this stuff of him being a 'driver ten years down the 'road is 'scary'
