Re: New Chatty Thread
Care- I think you are confusing me with Jen... she recently got her results. I *wish* my results were back... it has been over a week. I called today as a matter of fact to ask what was up and they called the lab who promised it would be ready tomorrow. Ahhh!
Patty- I have seen the *bat* thing in Austin... it is REALLY cool. Glad you all are settling in. I am sure your other house will sell soon.
A- I know it must be exhausting to start back to work. Oy! And yes, it is a good busy, not a bad busy. It is always just alot of detail work for me at the beginning of the year.
I thought I had removed the pesky password... ahhh! Ok...

Re: New Chatty Thread
Dawn- cute website
we had our level ll U/S today they said everything looks great she is measuring 20 weeks and 1 day they could not even see the chorid plexis cyst on her brain that we were worried about however they did find a bright spot on her heart which is not dangerous at all but can also sometimes be a soft marker for downs but since my screen was negitive he still feels it is unlikly but he said my odds went from 1 in 1200 to maybe 1 in 600 he said of course the only way to know for sure is an Amnio so we are just gonna go with the odds in our favor and be happy that our little girl will most likely be just fine and if we find out different after she is born we will love her just the same.

Re: New Chatty Thread
Jen, That's great that the brain cyst wasn't visible today! What a relief! I'm sorry to hear that they found a potential marker for down's but the odds are still in your favor. Good luck! I see that you are halfway through your pregnancy! Congratulations!!!!!

Re: New Chatty Thread
Well... we *finally* got our "early screen" results back late yesterday.
It isn't exactly what we wanted to hear. We are at an increased risk for Downs. She said the other numbers (for the Trisomy syndromes) were so off the charts, not to even really worry about what they were. Our risk is 1 in 100 for downs. However, she did say that our u/s was great and wasn't even playing into the numbers at all.
Apparently the average risk is 1 in 300. For someone my age (37), the average risk is 1 in 163.
So... now we are looking at an amnio. We hoped to not be facing this, but definitely want to know. We have talked about it extensively, and decided that for us, if we were going to have a special needs child, we would like to know ahead of time. If it is to be, we could get plugged into various services and groups that would be helpful. We also feel that we could focus on the baby better if we weren't trying to seek out support at the very beginning.
We will be calling to schedule it today for a couple of weeks from now. Positive thoughts appreciated.
Dawn

Re: New Chatty Thread
Dawn- Your odds at 1 in 100 are still better than my Baby B at 1 in 47. Try to remember that at 1 in 100 that's a 99% chance of having a healthy baby. My aunt had amnio- she was 47 at the time. She said it really was no big deal. I wish you the best, and definitely understand the need to know about a possibility of having a special needs baby.
We talked the OB today about the amnio. Ultimately, I think she convinced us NOT to have it. Since we will have the baby no matter what, she said there's a chance (even though it's very small) that there could be a problem and we could lose both babies. I don't think I could risk either baby for a 2% chance of Downs that I know we could and would deal with. She also said that at the 20 week u/s there are other things they look for- shortened femur, heart defects--that may also indicate Downs and then we could have the amnio after that.
Other news from the appointment- I'll be 15 weeks on Sunday and I've gained 15 pounds- I think- I really didn't have a start weight!!! (10 pounds in 4 weeks). My belly has started to grow, but not that much (I'm long waisted so I don't think I show as much). I was kind of freaked out, but the OB said it was fine and not to worry because it's twins. I'll have to post a belly pic this weekend so you guys can judge if I'm too big too fast!!
I had the tiniest bit of spotting on Wednesday night. It was just a spot or two and then nothing... My OB checked my cervix which seemed fine, but she is also sending me to a specialist to get a cervical length ultrasound at 16 weeks.
Oh- and I found out I have a yeast infection! Awesome. Apparently, the meds for it are safe.
Alita- I asked about allergy meds. My OB said that Claritin and Zyrtec (I think) were fine- Class B and okay. She said not to take Allegra and not to take the extended release versions of these meds. I'm still nervous about taking them daily. I may try the kids version (as long as they aren't extended release) and only take it when ABSOLUTELY necessary.
Sorry so long!!!

Re: New Chatty Thread
Care-
Thanks for the kind words and your perspective. We will just do it and hope for the best. In the end, we would also continue the pregnancy.
We have also decided that we are going to move ahead with telling people... heck, we ARE STILL having a baby no matter what. It takes away some of the worry when we are getting to have a fun time telling people as we are able to see them.
Glad your appt went well. I am *sure* that you aren't too big... heck, there are two babies in there!

Re: New Chatty Thread
Hey ladies! I guess I had a lot to check up on since I last checked!
Dawn, A friend of mine had a risk for down's of 1 in 9. She had an amnio and the baby checked out ok. She said the amnio itself wasn't too bad, it was the leadup to it that was very difficult b/c she didn't know what to expect and was really worried. I feel positive that everything will work out for you. A 99% chance of a healthy baby is pretty good odds. I know it must be worrisome, though!
Care, Did your OB say anything about using a decongestant or allergy +decongestant? I'm so stuffy and I think I need a decongestant to help.
Too bad about the yeast infection and spotting. It sounds like your prenancy is progressing nicely despite these minor setbacks.
I went bra shopping yesterday. It was really depressing. I think I've grown more in my boobs than anywhere else! I already had a large enough chest to begin with and now I'm having trouble finding bras that fit (yup, they're that big). I'm worried about finding nursing bras b/c Motherhood didn't carry my size!

Re: New Chatty Thread
A- You poor thing! I still have not found a bra that is comfortable. I can only imagine how hard it is to be too big for ones at the store, you will probably have to order them. My friend was pretty big b4 pg and she ended up having to order bras to fit when she was pg.

Re: New Chatty Thread
A- I'm so confused about the allergy meds. I went to Target and Walgreens to look for an allergy med that was not extended release- and they are all 24 hours now! I assumed that means it's time released. So, ugghh!! Even the kid's Claritin is 24 hours. So I don't know about the decongestant. She didn't mention that so I don't know if it's okay or not. (I think the Claritin D was 12 hour though which might actually be better if the decongestant is okay.) I bought the kid's Claritin but still have to check online to make sure if that's okay. I wish my OB had been more specific! Can't she go shopping with me?
BTW- my boobs are getting way bigger too. I'm avoiding the bra shopping thing! I hate it!

Re: New Chatty Thread
A- Do you remember that web address you gave us a while back that talked about safe medications? I didn't add it to my favorites, and I'm too lazy right now to go back through the threads.
I'm going to check all of the allergy drugs I'm thinking about!
Oh- DP is dying to take my belly pic later today so hopefully I'll have the energy to post it!

Re: New Chatty Thread
Care--The website was SafeFetus.com. Definitely post a belly pic!
I've been having a lazy weekend. DP had a terrible headache all weekend and I have been feeling tired, so I haven't done too much. I'm doing some reading for class this week, but that's about it. We got the new season of Nip/Tuck that just came out on DVD, so we watched the first 3 episodes.

Re: New Chatty Thread
Okay so I checked that website. Claritin at least is a Class B- thankfully not C. I think I'll take the kids' version only when I need it because then I can take 1/2 a dose (1 tablet instead of the 2 recommended for adults on the kids' version package).
I think I just overthink everything!!!
