Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Patty- Cool bottles!
Dawn- I had to keep up the stool softeners for a couple of days. I think I went after about 6 days of giving birth.
Okay- Back to poop...
It took Harper about 4 days to poop and all was well! A good sized soft poop! Jackson, however, is constipated. He went on Sunday at 3 a.m. and then last night in the middle of the night started going but in each diaper he only had like 1 hard smaller than a dime shard of poop. This was for three diapers in a row. He previously had the mustardy poop. He was extremely fussy yesterday and today so far. I emailed the doctor who said if he doesn't go today we should do the glycerin suppository, and we'll need to start prune juice on a daily basis. Poor baby!!
Dawn- As soon as you're allowed, I'd also start drinking a TON of water. Take it slow initially if you have an epidural (I threw up from eating too much ice after the spinal), but then I'd drink a ton especially if you are breastfeeding. It helped me to start feeling better.
I'm so excited to "meet" Olivia soon!

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
The babies had their 2 month checkup today. Lachlan weighs 9 lbs 5 oz and Áine weighs 8 lbs 12 oz. They are both 21 1/2 inches long now. They had a bazillion shots today and now they are really really fussy. I feel bad for them. Poor little Áine has both baby acne and eczema. The skin on her face looks horrible and it is itchy for her. We are starting Aquafor today.
I have been having problems with one of my nipples. I have a weird bump that developed during pregnancy and is now a bit infected looking. It looks like it has a blood blister and is about the color of a blackberry. It is SO painful like there are needles piercing my nipple, so the lactation consultant ordered me to get breast shields and to put a combo of antibiotic ointment and cortisone on it 3x per day. Hopefully it will start to heal or I might end up on oral antibiotics. To make my life even more fun, it looks like AF may be arriving.

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Carrie - poor Harper. I do hope his pooping sorts itself out soon.
Oh no Alita, just few more things to contend with. I'm sorry. I do hope the treatment works for you and that nasty painful lump disappears. I had a lot of problems with my nipples when bfeeding Mason. Ended up wearing breast shields for the first 4 months. They did help somewhat - helped limit the pain and also helped them try and heal.... I will say what I've always said BREAST FEEDING (LIKE GIVING BIRTH) - IT IS NOT NATURAL!!!! Good luck I hope it heals quickly.
I also hope Aine get's some relief with her skin problems. Mason has perioral dermatitis (took until he was almost 4 to get a correct diagnosis, despite seeking help since before he turned 1), so I can relate somewhat to having a baby with red, itchy skin.

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Any news Dawn? I see you are 4 days overdue....I hope you aren't in too much discomfort, although I guess that's to be expected at this stage. Thinking of you and wishing you, Kathy and precious baby Olivia, all the very best as she gets ready to arrive.... if she hasn't already!

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Ok... update. No Olivia yet.
BUT... today I am having contractions. Not really consistent over a long period of time, but having them more often and they are hurting some... not bad, just more intense. I had them every 15 minutes for a couple of hours this morning, then they spaced back out to 30 minutes, then longer. Starting about 30 minutes ago, I am having them again. We will see. I would MUCH rather her come on her own than via Pitocin!
However, I am a bit uncomfortable... and REALLY ready to meet her... so if an induction it is so be it! Tomorrow IS the big day. I will try to update or get Kathy to. My family is about to come unglued... my mom just called to say they are "on their way." They live in a little town in west Texas and it will take them about 6 hours to get here. Kathy's family only lives about 4 hours away so they are going to wait and leave early tomorrow morning. The rest of the family is basically in the area.
Here's hopin' she comes today!

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Anybody have this problem?
Starting this morning, my left breast is having trouble draining. It feels really full and hard in places and my usual pumping is not getting much out. (Like if I usually get 3-4 oz. in a session- I'm only getting 1 1/2 or 2 oz. and still feeling full in areas of my breast.)
From what I see online, it might be a blocked duct. I'm hoping it resolves itself- and soon! I don't want to lose my supply.
I couldn't get Dawn's link to work. Maybe I'll try typing it in like Donna said. I tried copying and pasting and that didn't work. I'm hoping Olivia is here and doing well!

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Sounds to me like you are engorged. Is your breast sore in a particular area? If so it is a blocked duct. Try to massage right above the soreness. For either you can put a damp rag in the microwave for like 10-20sec and apply it to the breast b4 you pump. Also massage the breast while you pump. It should fix itself with these measures within a few pumping sessions.
I cant get her link to work either...

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
LIke Patty said, massage your breast while pumping, going from the top, toward your nipple. I had this happen and it resolved itself really quickly. Good luck!

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Patty- What adorable pics!!! If H and J's heads were bigger, I'd get those too. Next year, I suppose. Although maybe we'll pick some up on clearance this year!
Dawn- Olivia is beautiful. It looks like you ended up with a c-section. I hope you are doing well. Enjoy the extra couple of days in the hospital and rest all you can!!!!
Well- yesterday was an awful day. My left breast was soooo painful and full, and I was freaked out about my supply. DP had to stay up most of the night (and slept in the recliner which aggravated her neck and back) since I was pumping so much overnight (and falling asleep with the pump on). I took two of the 600 mg ibuprofens from my c-section at like 6 a.m. (after trying massage, heat, and everything else yesterday and in the middle of the night) and when I pumped at 10 a.m. this morning- the engorgement finally went down and I was back to my normal supply. I know it's awful, but I'm kind of looking forward to weaning them off the breast milk. (I'm a bad mommy! ). Since I've been pumping, it's hard to go anywhere because I have to pump like 3 hours later. I'll be glad when the summer gets here, and they are on formula so that we can enjoy things like the zoo, etc. Susan and I agreed that when I go back to work the last week in April that the plan is for them to be fully on formula. Not what I originally planned, but ultimately I think it will be best for our family.
Jackson has gotten really crabby lately. He is an awesome sleeper at night (Harper isn't so much), but he stays awake so much during the day that he gets soooo overtired which isn't fun because nothing can console him. He'll scream for hours. We've even tried going for drives (which usually knocks them out) but even that didn't work last night! Luckily we're fortunate though because Harper has been really good lately!
Donna- You're 10 weeks! I hope all is going well.

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Care, Glad the engorgement decreased and your supply is up. My supply has been down for a couple days and the babies are eating more. I can barely keep up; it hasn't been like that in a long time. I think my supply could be down because I got AF (already!!!). Either that, or it's because of the infected nipple (which is better now) b/c I couldn't pump on the left side as long until the nipple healed, which was about 4 days. I don't think that's it, though b/c the other side had a decrease in supply too.
I understand about feeling trapped b/c of having to pump. I haven't been away from the house for more than about 3 hours in a couple months. I am hoping to get a car converter so I can bring the pump and pump in the car. That way at least I could be out and about for a longer period of time if I needed to. I am pumping indefinitely. Every time I think I really want to quit doing it, I look at my babies and think I need to keep with it for a while longer. I hope to make it at least until 6 months, possibly longer, but some days I am ready to quit!

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
You'd be surprised they may just fit! I didn't think their heads would be big enough but they were...
Don't feel bad if you wean early, any breast milk you give them is a blessing and they will do just fine on formula. I and almost everyone I know was a formula baby and we all turned out just fine! well, we maybe a little but that has NOTHING to do with the formula!
We also had days(weeks!!) like that Care...poor Jackson. Where are you napping him? Is it in a separate room that is out of the commotion of the rest of the house? I know if they don't get good naps they don't sleep well at night. Also, I can reassure you that at around 3-4months they will be soooooo much better. You will rarely have the inconsolable crying at all. We had a major meltdown with Emerson today we were at Julies aunts house for lunch and she was cranky and tired so I put her down in their crib and she started wailing, and was incnsolable (this hasn't happened in like a month) I knew it was just that she was over tired and did not get good naps the day before cause we were out car shopping and took her. So she missed one or two naps. I ended up laying with her on my chest in my aunts bed till she cried herself to sleep. It was AWEFUL, it was definately reminisent of their colic-y days.
