Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Hello all! All the babies are beautiful. We have had a great wknd which is well deserved since both boys and the girlchild have been sick for 2 weeks. Dp and I took a day trip childfree to new orleans yesterday. We shopped and ate and just had some time with each other which we desperately needed.
Care the non-pooping thing is no fun. Around 5-6 weeks one of my boys stopped up and developed a anal fisure (sp). Needless to say if 2 days pass now without a poopy we readily administer the glycerin.
2 moms yeah on olivia's pending arrival!
Eveyone else have a great week!

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Ok... so THE DAY (my EDD) came and went with nothing but a couple of contractions. <sigh>
One good thing about today, though. I am definitely in cleaning mode and getting TONS of stuff done. My office is actually CLEAN which was an amazing 6 hour ordeal, but hey... now I can walk into it without tripping over stuff AND I can find stuff, which is always an added bonus! haha
Our house is pretty danged clean at this point. I dunno what I am going to do with myself if we go all the way through to the induction on Friday. OH well! I guess our house will be cleaner than ever... not a bad way to start off.
Re: Poo conversation. OK.. I had NO idea that BF babies poo that infrequently.... how WEIRD! Learn something new every day, I guess.
I have a doc appointment tomorrow afternoon. I hope that I hear that I am more "something."

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Dawn- The "need" to clean is the one thing that every mom I talked to said they had prior to going into labor! I never had it...but, I am POSITIVE I would have gone a few more wks if I would have not been induced. Julie had it though and I thought that was amuzing cause she had more labor signs then I.

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Here are a few things I found on baby poop...
Even if a baby is strictly breast-fed, the frequency of stooling varies among infants. While a frequent stool is most common, babies may stool only one time every other day and still be completely normal. Constipation in fact refers not only to the frequency of stools, but also to the consistency. Therefore, if an infant poops every third day but it comes out soft, this would not be considered constipation, and no therapy is indicated. In fact, at 3-6 weeks of age, breast-fed babies may only have one stool a week. This is because breast milk leaves very little waste in the intestines to be passed. Again, if the stool, when passed, is not hard, this is completely normal. In general, it is almost impossible for strictly breast-fed babies to become constipated.
Babies that don’t poop for several days
Once your baby is about one month old, he may start having fewer bowel movements. If your baby is breastfed, he may go several days to a week without having a bowel movement. This is nothing to worry about. Exclusively breastfed babies rarely have problems with constipation. If he goes longer than a week, he seems to be in pain, or if you are concerned, call your pediatrician.
I would not do the suppositories too often as it could cause the baby to only be able to poop with them.
Here is one more...
A breastfed baby should have six to eight wet diapers a day until around six weeks of age; and five to six wet diapers a day thereafter; and two or more good-sized bowel movements every day for the first 6-8 weeks.
At around the age of six weeks, the stooling pattern of a breastfed baby may change. It is not uncommon for the breastfed baby to skip days between bowel movements. Some babies skip every other day, some go every two or three days, some once every 5 - 7 days, and some babies hold out for up to 11 or 12 days at a time - then have quite a FULL diaper when they DO go!
There is absolutely no reason to intervene and try methods commonly used to "induce" a bowel movement (such as prune or other types of juices, water, glycerin suppositories, or using rectal stimulation). If artificial stimulation is done too often, the baby's system can become dependant upon this stimulation to "go", and no longer is able to have a normal bowel movement on their own.

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Thanks for all the poo information, Patty!
I guess I just hadn't thought about it that much. I am sure that we discussed it in some class, but my brain must have been elsewhere

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
You gals with babies that don't poop regularly are lucky. Mine poop at least 4 times a day each (and they are being fed breast milk). PLUS, they have been spending the past few mornings from 7 am - 10 am straining, turning red, grunting, and crying before they poop. It's awful and I feel so exhausted b/c I usually sleep during that time. Consider yourself lucky if they don't poop every day!

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Ok... just returned from the doctor's office... so here is my update.
I had about 4 or 5 contractions this morning about 15 minutes apart, then they stopped. Then, right after left I had more and they started coming about every 10 minutes or less. It was really weird. Had them all the way to the doctor's office and one while I was there... then they stopped again.
I am finally dilated to an official 1! Woo hoo! She could feel the baby's actual head (which is amazing to me.)
The contractions are coming and going, but nothing regular or very intense. Doc said she thinks we should have her here before Friday, but if not, she feels good about the induction since my body seems to be progressing. She said, ready or not on Friday, we will "kick her out of there!"

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Dawn- good luck with everything for Friday or sooner can't wait to hear all about her !!
Amy and I were just talking about poop today we never thought we would be so concerned over poop . I know formula feed babies are different from BF babies but Katie also usually only goes every other day to 2 days and it seems she gets fussy before she has to go and she also gets all red in the face and makes grunting and pushing sounds. and she can fart up a storm she is so gassy sometimes it's like the forth of july in there but I guess she is normal she goes to the dr on the 19th for her 2 month check up so I am going to ask about it again.

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Oh Dawn you are so close to delivering baby Olivia, how exciting! I can't wait for more updates.....
Chiming in a bit late on the subject of baby pooping....Mason was fully b/feed in the early months and he went DAYS (at least 5 but in my mind I think up to 9 days) btwn bowel movements on many occasion! Our doc said that perfectly normal, and we did nothing to bring on a poop (although once we tried to "administer" a suppository for a different reason - Paracetemol to bring down a fever - with hilarious results - but that's another story!). We too were told that constipation referred to the quality rather than the quantity. Actually, TMI but Mason's poop was always rather runny - that was what used to concern me more, even worried about dairy intolerance - but tested fine. I think the info that Patty posted about covers it.

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Patty - THANK YOU for the poo post!! DP keeps saying Caleb is constipated because he hasn't pooped in a day & I know he's not. It was interesting to read about the 1 month mark changing things becasue it seems like that's when he went from pooping several times a day to every few days. I swear - when I tell DP something it's silly, if someone else says the exact same thing it's fact
Dawn - another word about poo, except not the baby's. If I could give you one bit of advice it would be to drink TONS of water, juice and be vigilant about taking stool softeners, even when you get home from the hospital. We had friends warn us about the first after delivery poop. DP did fine in the hosp but a day or 2 after we got home...I won't really get into it, but she serioulsy thought about going to the ER - is was that bad. I don't mean to scare you just encouraging you to take the softeners when you get home too. Not sure if anyone else here went through that but it sucked for DP!

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
Laura - Interesting. I will take the advice for sure. That "problem" had NEVER affected me until I got preggo. Then, my prenatal has something in it that worked for me. But, I haven't had any real problems (even when I forgot my vitamins) since the first trimester. I have had some "issues" here lately, so I better get on the stick and drink more water and eat more veggies/fruit! Thanks!

I highly recommend the stool softeners until you feel healed. They are a godsend.

Re: March G/L Prego/Parents Chatty
So my DP was horrified when she saw my last post. I think it brought back bad memories. On the day after I got home from the hospital, I sent her for a stool softener, gas X, and hemorrhoid cream (just in case--I never needed it). She had to ask the pharmacist where the stool softener was and she was mortified.
FYI, after my c/s, my abdomen blew up like a balloon and the gas X was really important. I was so full of gas that I looked 9 months pregnant again. It was really uncomfortable, too.
