This is a discussion on Caleb's 2 mo appt. (X-post) within the Gay/Lesbian forums, part of the General Pregnancy category; First - the appointment went well Little Pig-Dog weighs 14 lbs 12 oz (95%) and is 23 inches (60%),,,so ...
First - the appointment went well Little Pig-Dog weighs 14 lbs 12 oz (95%) and is 23 inches (60%),,,so basically he's a little ball of baby!
DP said he handled the shots pretty well - I left the room I know I would have been fine if I had stayed, but I figured one of his moms was with him so why should all 3 of us be sad? Plus, when we took his clothes off he peed ALL OVER my shirt so I had to go clean up.
So, here's what I'm mad about. You might remember that I posted a long time ago about it looking like his penis was an innie - like he had never been circumsized. I had the doc look at it and she said whoever did the circ didn't cut enough off I am SO mad because I never wanted him circ'd in the first place because I didn't want him to go through the pain and I felt it was unnessary. DP wanted him circ'd because she wanted him to look like all the other kids. But, as it turned out he had to go through the procedure and he still looks like he is uncut!

Laura, What a little chubster! Lachlan is still below 12 lbs, so we have tiny babies over here. Every time I see a bigger baby I can't believe how small my two are still.
I guess the bright side of the circ issue is that they didn't take off too much skin. That would definitely be worse than them not taking enough off. It is a shame that it was not done correctly, though.
We need to schedule a playdate! Now that the weather is better, we should go for a walk.

Laura- it seems that a lot of parents have a hard time with this, but please keep in mind that an uncir. penis holds a lot of germs and isn't very comfortable sometimes for the woman he chooses in the future. There is a lot of bacteria that is housed beneath the foreskin and it's probably best that a boy not have to deal with that. I know that as a lesbians we don't have to deal with that crap but for the woman that he chooses I am sure that she won't want the infections that could come from an uncirc. penis you kwim? I am really sorry that procedure didn't turn out well though. It's a shame that poor Caleb had to go through all of that for nothing.

Harper and Jackson just got their first shots too. It was horrible. They just kept screaming and screaming. And later that night at bedtime, Harper was inconsolable!
Harper weighed 8 lbs. 13 oz. and Jackson weighed 8 lbs. 12 oz. We FINALLY moved out of newborn clothes into 0-3 months!

tasha: as long as the parents teach their son how to clean thoroughly and, as a man, he follows through, it is just as safe and clean as being circumcised. it's no different than teaching a kid to clean his fingernails and keep them trimmed or to clean his butt between the cheeks. germs can harbor anywhere there are skin folds; certainly you wouldn't advocate cutting off any skin that folds over skin all over the body, right?
as a jew, i am most comfortable with the look of a circumcised penis and all the baby boys in my family have been circ'd. that said, my wife and i have mostly decided not to circ if we have a boy. mostly because we think it's not a decision we can make for our child. we have heard from many men about being resentful of being circ'd because of sexual pleasure (among other things.)
also, the partner one's son chooses will hopefully love him as he is, circ'd or not. it's part of the package, y'know?
i would never say anyone should not circ if she wanted to, but it's an individual decision and i really don't think one option is "better" or "worse" than another--especially not for the reason of cleanliness. scrupulous cleaning and parental education is the solution there.
i hope i'm not coming off as an a**hole. i don't mean to at all! it's just a conversation my wife and i have been having for months now so i have a lot of opinions!

You've got a big boy there and he's such a cutie. The shots are so hard to watch so I'm glad you were able to be out of the room. Sorry he had to go through the circumsision only to have it not done right. I would be pretty mad too.

glad to hear Caleb is doing well sorry to hear about the circ issue though my partner and I also differed on that I said I wanted him to have one if we had a boy and Amy was not really against it but did not feel it was needed . I guess if we ever do this again and end up with a little boy I might have to consider this a little more then I did before.

Robin- I think my feelings on the issue of circumcision come from the fact that my Godson was not circumcised. Now that he is 13 and wants to be it would cause him a lot more pain than something he wouldn't have even remembered. I guess everyone has there own views on the subject but I just think about how much that would hurt if a man had to go through that as an adult. One of my cousins was 15 when he was circumcised and I remembered him not even wanting to walk because it hurt him so badly. There is a right choice for each individual family, but I know that if I am ever blessed with a boy I would want to have him circumcised as a baby; though my DP and I haven't discussed it. It's not something that I am willing to let go of so she would have to lose that battle if she felt differently.

I can never figure out the different weights/lengths, why don't you over there use the metric method like we Aussies do huh?! I'll have to go look up Mason's figures and do some online calculations to picture how big your son is LOL
It's great Caleb is growing so well - a nice healthy bub.
I hated it when Mason got his shots, and would make Andy hold him - I'd stay in the room but turn my head away. I'd then get to do the comforting. Of course he only cried briefly and was as happy as ever straight after with no nasty side-effects thank goodness. Actually, Mason had his last shots a couple of weeks ago (aged 4) and this time I got to hold him - boy oh boy was mummy brave!!! Oh, and so was Mason thanks to a special spiderman prize at the end of it.
Damn it that the circ wasn't performed as good as it should have been. What does that mean for him? I'm assuming it's means he looks like he hasn't been circ and that it's either a case of leave it alone now, or go back for another attempt? I'm hoping at least it wasn't "botched" and that everything is perfectly fine - just a bit more skin that is meant to be there after a circ?
I was talking to 3 fathers (friends of ours) the other day, after one had bathed my son and was a little concerned about the redness at the tip of my son's (uncirc)penis (they all took a look and felt it was "normal", but they did note he had a "long" foreskin). Learnt more than I ever wanted to know about penises and foreskins LOL. Basically it seems that even "intact" foreskins vary greatly in length and "type". One man said he'd never been circ, yet it looked like he had been. Don't know what I'm trying to say here, just that like with all body parts, there are many variations!
