We were chosen to parent the baby in FL. Sadly, after she so excitedly told us that we were "IT", she asked us for another 10 grand in expenses. This is an agency doing the asking BTW.
There was NO WAY we could come up with that much more, not that we would, but talk about ripping our hearts out.

I know we have Russia still, but it still sucks to know that we FINALLY got picked, but then had to say no.

Nicole, I'm so sad for you guys right now! I can only imagine the excitement you must have felt and the gut wrenching desision to follow. Did they give a reason for the extra $$? It seems awfully funny for the agency to do it that way.....you would think they would have mentioned the $$ before they asked to show your profile!

To Russia with love! Let's bring that little Prince home! (and the trips will fun too!)

Just popping in here to say I'm sorry. I know that must be so hard for you. I have only just begun on the adoption path, but it seems odd to me as well that an agency would ask for that much more money. I think it's just awful of them to do that. Very unethical IMHO.

Hang in there and take care. I really hope your baby finds you soon!

Oh. I am so sorry. I can't believe that you were put through that. It is heartbreaking. I so wish stuff like that never happened.

That totally SUC*S!!! I am so sorry to hear that. What did she want the 10,000.00 for? I don't understand how come it isn't a set fee for domestic adoptions? Is it normal for the BM to ask for more money once she picks the family. I'm sorry I just don't understand.

Nicole, I am so sorry this happened and I hope your hearts heal fast and that your referral from Russia comes fast.Hang on girl it's gonna be a little longer before this roller coaster ride ends.

I don't know if it's standard procedure to ask for more money but I agree they should of been upfront about this before they showed your profile, were here if you need to talk.

Thanks ladies. Man, was I a crab to my DH last night. It just rings my bell that they did this. They asked for the extra monies as "legal and other fees". When I started pushing them on it the agency got really defensive and asked if we could pay that fee or not. When I said no, but asked why it wasn't included in the fee we were told about she told me that this was the fee, if I couldn't pay it we didn't need to continue our conversation and if I could, then we could talk more. I told her, "thanks for breaking my heart" and hung up the phone.

Why are so many people doing this and making what should be a good solution to two sets of problems, ruining it and making it so only the totally rich can afford this.

Okay...off my soap box. Sorry, needed to let that out.

I am off to work on my Russia stuff, which I am STILL waiting for my homestudy from my old agency. Only been 3 weeks. Sheesh.
