Icon5 Registering and Nursery?

Anybody already registered or have the nursery done?

Now that I know our path I think my heart is ready to start getting a room ready for our little boy. (We have asked for a boy btw).

The nursery will be monkeys and jungle animals with a khaki and green theme. Should I start registering now since we are almost done with our dossier?

Or would you wait? I am ready to move on with this phase in my life!!

Nicole

Nicole,

I don't think there are any rules when it comes to this stuff. I think you can do whatever you are comfortable with. Me...I have a little shopping problem! My hubby tried to restrain me as much as possible, but once we were approved and "waiting", he gave in a bit. We are doing a domestic adoption & sometimes there are "emergency placement" situations where you don't get a lot of notice, so I wanted to be prepared. It sounds ridiculous, but I have my nursery done, bottles/formula in stock, & the carseat & stroller ready to go! For the most part, I keep the nursery door closed--kind of like a present waiting to be opened, but once in a while, I wander in there. It makes me smile knowing that we aren't that far away! Good luck & happy shopping!!

Our nursery is done. I wanted to have it finished for our pictures for our dossier. All I had to buy though was crib bedding since all the furniture we had from our son. Just had to pull it down from the attic.

You know, I think it is really up to each person. We decided we wouldn't register or anything until the referral came in just because we have no idea how old or young the baby will be and I can not decide on bedding. Which I love the monkey bedding by the way.

I say go for it Nicole, your gonna get your baby this year and you can go as quickly or as slow as you want getting it all together. But you have to promise to share pictures!!!

We did with our first adoption attempt. We registered and had our baby shower before our bmom changed her mind. But, I still would have done it that way. It is so joyful to build your nursery from the ground up and when I was doing that I was so hopeful. I would sit in there and rock and just dream. Those moments are precious to me even though our plans didn't work out for us at that time.

Our plans did work out though and we did still have the nursery! And actually, I'm still using the crib and everything!

Have fun. Registering is fun. Decorating is fun. It is a wonderful way to spend the waiting time.

Myself, I did our Nursary when we started TTC with Kirsten, not knowing it would take 3 years (and a DR.)to get pg. It was kinda hard looking and sitting in there while waiting. Also, do you know how old the little prince will be? He may not be using bottles, Russia likes to push cups after 9 months and before that kiddos can be "nipple picky" K hated every bottle I had purchased before she was born. I had to go out and buy new ones until we found what she liked. Formula is hard because each child sort of needs a differant one....and they are really expensive if you don't know for sure that's what you will for sure be using.

I think since you know boy and about what age and yet this year, getting ready slowly is a great idea. I might wait to register until the refferal comes in. Having the actual baby in mind really adds to the fun.

I have a friend that just adopted her 2nd from Russia and he just turned 2. He came home at 14 months and was just a little behind in the clothing size....wearing 6-9 months.

Having older children and having been through the preparations before...you know the drill!

I think it's totally up to you. Some people have a hard time looking at a nursery with no baby. I wanted to complete the nursery. I think we had it finished by the time we hit our 6 month mark of waiting. It didn't bother me at all looking at the nursery, in fact it gave me hope. I also started baby registries but of course nothing was ever purchased off of it until the shower when we got our son. Keep in mind that if you do register for something, it could be discontinued or not available by the time you do get your baby. I felt it was good to start adding things when I saw something I liked or wanted.

Thanks all! I think we are going to wait to really decorate until the referral comes and then do more during the wait between trips. I sure did find stuff that I liked out there though. I bought a high chair cover with monkey's on it for our little baby monkey.

Now that I know we are getting a boy for sure, I can start sorting through all this girl stuff. You wouldn't believe the amount of girl stuff I have. It is insane. INSANE I tell you!
