Icon9 Program Suspended

The Guatemalan program through our agency was suspended for a year as of today. No referral for us. No money back for us. We have the option to transfer to domestic adoption, but we don't know what the hell to do. I am taking this really hard, so don't be offended if I don't answer posts.

Nicole

I am so sorry

Sorry I don't know much about international adoption, but what is the reason for that?

I hope everything works out for you.

Well crap! That just stinks!

I'm so sorry. I hope they can get you a domestic referral ASAP! The last thing you need/want is to wait even longer. Is Guatemala the only international country they work with?

Let us know what happens.

Hi Nicole,

I'm sorry, I am sure this feels like another loss on top of the many you have already endured. I don't know what else so say except I am very sorry!

If you have any questions about domestic at LSS MN, feel free to ask me. We have been in "the book" almost 3 months and have had 3 people take our info (1 couple decided to parent, 1 couple chose another family and we actually met with 1 birthmom who chose another family). It does have its ups and downs but it is kinda fun along the way to meet these new people.

Last I heard there were about 55 families in the book but now that # might go up if a bunch of Guatamala families add...not sure? They have about 3-5 emoms coming in a month but not all decide to place. Just to give you an idea of how things work.

Let me know if you want to talk...

Megan

Thanks ladies.
We are still just gobsmacked at all this. Our agency is wanting us to do domestic and stay in the international program until Guatemala opens up again (if ever.)
We aren't really interested in any other country except Guatemala (or Columbia) but only in Guatemala can you adopt an infant.
We are going to training on September 21 at our agency, but the thought of being in the book with 55 other families is making me sick. Especially since we were so close. The "if only's" are killing me right now. If only I hadn't delayed this, if only I had pushed this person harder to do that....you know how that goes.
Megan, I would be interested in talking to you off line. Could you send me an email? My email is listed in my profile.

Thanks again ladies.....wish I had better news.

Nicole

I'm so sorry. I can only imagine how frustrating this is to you. I know when we began the adoption journey we looked into Guatemala but the reason we chose domestic is because of the "hauge" in Guatemala which meant sometime in 2007 they were going to be a halt on adoptions to the US. I kept reading all about this and how it COULD happen so I couldn't take that chance. I really wish agencies would be more up front about things like this. I asked the sw about the hauge and she was so vauge and made it sound like it wasn't an issue but it is so I am so thankful we went with our gut instincts. It shouldn't be too hard to switch over to domestic. I think the more races you are open to the faster you get placed.

Oh no, Nicole...I'm so sorry, I would say give domestic a chance and don't beat yourself up because the truth is we have no control over the adoption process. I never imagined it would be such a roller coater but it really, really is.

Keep me posted and if you need to talk you can PM me or just come online and vent away I'm sure we can all understand the complete and total frustration of it all!
