Hi there...
Hello everyone,
I will like to introduce my self. My name is Melissa, but I like to be call Mely. I am 34 yrs old and my DH is 34 too. We have a little 8 yrs old princess call Zoulanche that was concieved without any problem. We had been TTC for 2.5 yrs without any luck, as far as we know ours only problems are low progesterone and low motility. We even did IVF on May without any positive result. We spent around $20K on that and we are in some debt for now. Hopefully we will pay it off in 2-3 years.
I can't get over the fact that I want another baby, so we have been talking about adoption. We can't afford private adoption right now maybe after we pay the IVF.
Anyway, I have been reading on the internet about adoption but I don't know from where to start.
I would like to know...
1. if it is posible to adopt an infant from foster care?
2. where should I start?
3. before you get into adoption it is normal to feel doubts about if it's the right thing to do?
4. If you adopt with a private agency it is very expensive?? how much?
I have so many questions...Thanks in advance! I hope to find new friends in here that can help me in this process.
I wish for all of you the best!

Re: Hi there...
Hi Mely!
to the board! I hope we can be helpful and supportive for you.
I am currently going through a bit of a crisis and am a bit pushed for time at the moment, and I want to try and answer your questions so, please forgive me if I can't do that right now. I will come back as soon as I can.
I just wanted to make sure you knew I was glad to see you here.

Re: Hi there...
Marian, I can only imagine what you and your family is going through right now, I know that Lilly is your daughter and the pain and frustration must be unbearable. Don't worry...I appreciate that you took the time to welcome me in the adoption board!
I have good news...we are going to our first orientation on Wed. !!!!!

Re: Hi there...
Hi,
Sorry it took me so long to respond. We've been fighting the crud at our house. It's nice to meet you.
Here are some answers to your questions from my experience.
1. if it is posible to adopt an infant from foster care? We were told it is possible, but very unlikely and there is a very long wait associated.
2. where should I start? start by what you are doing!! Research, research, research! We went to quite a few information sessions before we choose our agency.
3. before you get into adoption it is normal to feel doubts about if it's the right thing to do? It took us a long time to figure out it was what we wanted to do. (about 1 1/2 years)
4. If you adopt with a private agency it is very expensive?? how much? Depends on what you consider expensive. We started out our adoption journey adopting from Guatemala which was $35,000 - $40,000. Our domestic adoption will be at most $15,000 so we are feeling lucky.
Good luck to you!!!
Nicole

Re: Hi there...
Sorry that I haven't come back to update about the orientation.
It was very good we got our application, and did the live scan already. We are going to another two agencies and after that we will make the decision to which we will use. We are very excited and looking forward to get this process going.
Thanks Janay, how are you doing...are you still doing one more IVF?

Re: Hi there...
Hey Mely! I don't know if you remember me from the IVF board or not but I'm just now coming over here too so I was excited when I saw you We just made the decision to start our adoption process and just turned in our application. I am so excited! We are adopting from Vietnam and we were told it is going to be between $28,000-$32,000. Don't forget that if you adopt you get I think an $11,000 tax credit.
We just did a lot of research and I think I got about 30 agency packets and narrowed it down to about 15. I then called all 15 and got some references but in the end I wound up going by gut feeling.
I did get some doubts during the research stage. Mainly, I worried what kind of effect it would have on my child if they were a different race. I didn't want them to have issues with other children or people saying mean stuff but my heart just knew it's what we are supposed to do. Anyway, I'm glad to see you on here. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
