Going to an adoption info meeting...

This meeting is basically to educate interested couples/people about adoption.

Any recommendations of what information I should receive? ask for?

Well that sounds very exciting. When I went to a similiar meeting with one of the agencies we interviewed they gave us a packet that included prices, information about each programs, a general guideline of how each program worked and then a timeline for each program.

those are great! We went to several of those through different agencies to help us decide on an agency and country.

one thing you want to make sure is if you are going international that your agencies has people in country to help you every step of the way and you aren't walking blind. I want someone there holding my hand pretty much.

The meeting was informative -- although, the agency sort of expected you to already know if you wanted domestic or international. The meeting split into 2 groups after 30 minutes, separating international and domestic.

Some couples went to both: DH to one, DW to the other.

I was there alone b/c DH was working. We had already been leaning toward domestic, so I went with that group.

After gathering information for the past few weeks and getting/hearing more information at this meeting, we are 99% sure we are going to go ahead with the application. We are leaning toward foster to adopt and plan to request siblings. We are not going to rush to get into the June classes, we are aiming for the Sept classes.

Sort of happy and scary....kWIM?

Hmm, Sorry to hear the agency didn't give everyone an overview of both in the seminar. You know I think most people go there having an idea of whether or not they want international or domestic but alot of times I think it is for some of the wrong reasons. These agencies need to relaize there is alot of wrong information out there. Atleast I know that was my case. I had alot of scewed thoughts with domestic and as I talk to the ladies on this board and do some reading I realize I had alot of bad information although I am still happy with our decision to go with international.

Fostering/adopting sounds like an awesome way to find your family. I can't wiat to hear all about it.

It sounds like it went very well despite them splitting the groups up. Fostering/adopting is a great thing, and September will be here soon
