First Home Study Visit Tomorrow
The social worker from our Home Study agency is coming over tomorrow to do our first interview I am excited that we are having it so soon but should I be nervous about it? What can I expect tomorrow? Is she going to ask any tough questions that I need to prepare for? I guess I will do a little research online but I thought I would ask you guys too. I was going to bake some cookies but my dh told me that might be a little over the top I just want to make a good impression. She's really nice though so I'm sure I have nothing to worry about.

Re: First Home Study Visit Tomorrow
How exciting!
You have nothing to worry about. The home visits are all about getting to know you and the space you live in. I was a little nervous about our first one too but eventually you realize that they are there to help you get to where you want to go!
Now I am terrific friends with my worker. She is a wonderful person and been my lifesaver through my fostering experience.
Just try to think of it as meeting a very good potential friend and you'll do great. Be who you are. And if who you are is someone who make cookies, then make cookies!
Let us know how it goes.

Re: First Home Study Visit Tomorrow
Just remember parents who conceived on their own aren't perfect and neither are you expected to be! Relax and be who you are. I spent so much time deep cleaning my house only for our SW to look at the house for about 2 seconds! My homestudy was contracted out so I haven't seen my SW since the interview process. She asked a lot of questions about relationship with friends and family as well as each - how we see us parenting those type of things. Oh yeah what type of child we would want in our home. From my friends who have done domestic and international adoption that the homestudy interview is more like a conversation than an interview.
Ok - enough rambling - I'm sure you will be just fine and soon this will just be a distant memory while waiting for that special referral call!

Re: First Home Study Visit Tomorrow
Girl you guys are just moving right along.
I was a nervous wreck with my homestudy, like Marian I deep cleaned the house, child proofed the house, made brownies, put together a veggie platter, made hot tea, good lord girl I did it all. My social worker ROCKED she is so wonderful, it ended up being more like a conversation, she handed over alot of paperwork for us to do and then talked about friends and family, I totally felt like I was talking to a long lost friend. Don't worry to much, just be yourslef and don't be afraid to tell the truth. I know that sounds odd (the telling the truth part) but I have a less then perfect relationship with my parents and I had to tell her that and you know what she totally uderstood and then told me about her relationship with her parents and made me feel so good.
Ok I'm rambling now so good luck and bake cookies if you want too.
Can't wait to hear how it went!

Re: First Home Study Visit Tomorrow
Thanks for all the great advice girls! Unfortunately, my social worker called on Thur night and had to reschedule until Monday. She said there was a baby born at the hospital and the mom just called up that day and wanted to give it up so she had to go handle that situation. I totally understand but I was looking forward to getting it over with. I wish I could have taken that baby girl that was born but of course there are people in line and we aren't done with our homestudy yet. Anyway, I will let you all know how monday goes.
