Icon4 ? for Domestic Adoptions

it's awfully quiet around here....Our SW gave us a call on Friday. Just wanted to plant the idea with us of advertising our adoption intentions in magazines and newspapers from our state. She said that if we got a hit that we would move off the list and start our homestudy right away and the agency would work with the bmom etc. but it would be a independant adoption instead of an agency pool. That would save the placement fee and the attorney fees.

Has anyone done this? Does it really work? What if we get scammed? I really like the thought but hate to start spending $$ on advertising that might not pay off.

Anybody's SW suggest this to them?

Hi Chrissy

Just wanted to say good luck...I only dealt with an agency so I am not sure about doing it independently.

Hi Chrissy,

I have not done this but I have heard about it and some people say it is successful. I would def research some more and keep the possibility open. Good Luck and keep us posted.

We have thought about advertising in WI as well. We aren't pursuing anything until after the 1st of the year, but good luck!!

This is just another option. It just ups your odds of being seen sooner. I would never do it without an agency involved though. I think you have a much higher chance of a scam without an agency working with your bmom.

Let us know what else you find out.

Thanks ladies....I'll run some "ads" past you when we pick the markets! I think if we try and it fails then at least we persued the idea and if it works, well then we are closer to bringing home baby KMW! We plan on doing this just after the new year!

Scamming is a definite possibility. We worked with an agency but I found an online classified ad site where we posted our profile and we had some fraud email us telling us she wanted to place her 3 week old daughter with us. I would be very leary of posting anything in newspapers or any ad. Good luck.
