Default The battle of the birthday cake!

Well each year I make K's birthday cake from scratch and try to make it extra special and something she's into. Her first birthday she had a white cake with pink and purple butterfly's (her favorite at the time) Last year she had a cowgirl/horsey party and we made a cake like a horse head that was pretty cool but this year she informs me that she wants a princess cake that is pink, purple, orange and green and looks like this:

So here is what I did today:

She won't get to see it till her party on Sunday so I hope she loves it! I almost don't want anyone to eat it!

I've been at this all day! She's getting up from her nap and I'm thinking that I may need one!

Did I mention that she also wanted red velvet cake too! That's what's under the fondant icing.

Okay, before I get set up on this momma pedistal, I have to tell you all that this is big thanks to Walmart! Red velvet cake from scratch is really pretty easy. The icing is fondant which you find in the wedding isle at the store. You just soften it, add the color you want and roll it out like a cookie. Use regular frosting on the cake and then lay the fondant on top. Kirsten picked out the sequins also at "the store" and I just used frosting to hold them in place. Really guys, you can all do this! Besides, the pictures hide alot of blemishes! Still, I'm rather impressed and I know she wil be too!

Glad you guys like it!
