Pillows...your thoughts?
Ok, I know I'm probably taboo in even asking the question but are any of you using pillows yet?
While on vacation and being in the cramped quarters of an RV, many times I put Owen on our bed for naps (I know...bad mom, again!) instead of dragging out the big, portable crib. I noticed that if I layed his head down on a pillow, he was a lot more relaxed and slept longer and was more comfortable when he moved in his sleep. (oh, and I won't even get into the sleeping at night thing...that's still NOT happening here so I've just learned to accept things for what they are!)
From what I've been reading, we shouldn't use pillows until they are at least 18 months old. Have any of you BTDT moms used them earlier?

Re: Pillows...your thoughts?
Alyssa is sleeping on a pillow now, and she often takes naps on one. She can roll over and sit up, so I'm not too worried. I do check on her though, and have a video monitor on at night. She is definitely more comfy on a pillow.

Re: Pillows...your thoughts?
G has been sleeping on a pillow since the day he came home from the hospital... he may have even had one in the hospital cant remember..... here they sell these really flat pillows designes especially for babies..
when he was a newborn he used to scoot up to the wall of the pnp and wake up if the pillow wasnt there,
the pillow just kinda held him in place.

Re: Pillows...your thoughts?
We still co-sleep too. And there have always been pillows in the bed, never bothered him a bit. He doesn't usually use them much...unless he climbs on top of them. But they're there.

Re: Pillows...your thoughts?
No pillows, but I do have stuffed animals and blankets. 2 blankets. But she sleeps a lot better with a stuffed animal, for ever she's rolled to her side and threw her arm around her hippo or bunny and will hug it. I think she likes the feeling of having someone else there.

Re: Pillows...your thoughts?
Pillows when she's in our bed. Although I've been considering it with as congested as she's been lately. But she sleeps on her belly in her crib, so it'd probably just get in the way. But, she also sleeps with the blanket over her face and has since day one.

Re: Pillows...your thoughts?
We actually stopped using the pillow when Adrien moved from the bssinet to the crib. I used to take 2 really flat pillows and put them next to each other long ways and Adrien would lay with his butt in the crack where the pillows touch. He would never change positions at night when he slept like that, but then he would sleep horrible without them, but he adjusted really well when he went to the crib thankfully. Plus he sleeps on his belly and is the biggest crib surfer ever so I dont think a pillow would do any good for him.
I dont use a pillow now, but I dont see anything wrong with them, I guess just be careful because there is that chance kwim?

Re: Pillows...your thoughts?
Max has been using a pillow for a few months and Cody did early too. They both had reflux and had to be propped up. It got to where having the mattress propped up just made their little bodies slide down the bed and sleep funky LOL So I tried a pillow and they sleep great!

Re: Pillows...your thoughts?
We started using a pillow for Owen when he was about 15-16 months old because he had gotten his first horrible cold and needed to be elevated when he was sleeping. He's had one ever since. Peri doesn't have one in her crib and I won't put one in there unless I think she needs it for some reason. But if she happened to need one now I wouldn't be opposed to giving her one. She co-sleeps with us the second half of her night and we have pillows of course. She only puts her head on them occassionally. We are still getting up several times a night here so I am all for doing whatever it takes to get more sleep. If you think a pillow will do that, then I say go for it.

Re: Pillows...your thoughts?
in europe its very common to use pillow and also heavy comforters. its the only way to keep kids warm and comfy.
erik has been using a pillow and a down duvet since he was about 2 months old.
its weird how different countries have totally different views on safety for babies. ped here got all worked up that we were co-sleeping as well as warned us about pillows, comforteres, blankets, toys, bumpers and dog-knows-what. in europe ppl looked at me like i was nuts when they heard i wasnt tucking him in with a heavy duvet at nite. and co-sleeping is more the norm than not in most countries in the world. when we picked up emma in guatemala, there were no seat-belts, no car seats, babies sat in ur lap. actually, the lady that "dropped" em off with us had her sitting in her lap when she was driving! em was 15 months old! during my stay there i also saw children and infants tossed in the back of pick-ups and on scooters, in 65 miles an hour traffic on small country, dirt roads.

Re: Pillows...your thoughts?
Yes, Aliya still co-sleeps with us and has been using a pillow for a long time now, she has been sleeping in her crib the first part of the night now and yes she has her own regular size pillow in her crib and usually 1-2 blankets.
