O/T What Do You Do At A Graduation Party??
I'm totally clueless when it comes to this kinda party. What do you do other then have food and cake and open gifts or whatever?? Are there any games to play? I have NO idea!!
DD's graduation is on Thurs the 5th and on Sat the 7th we are having a graduation party for her. I made the time 4:00pm ~ Whenever, cause that's just how we always do our parties. That way it leaves the whole day open for everyone to come by at some point. There will be adults and kids ranging from all ages here. We are going to do hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill with lots of different finger foods, cake and ice cream and then later on that night, we are gonna sit around the fire pit and roast hotdogs and make some smores, is there anything else I should know or try planning for this? PLEASE help me out with some ideas...lol

Re: O/T What Do You Do At A Graduation Party??
My experiences have been that you basically have a buffet of various food. Whatever you like. I've seen just snacks/appetizers to sandwich fixings and salads to a little of both. Poeple come, eat, and visit. That's about it. I've never seen a graduate open presents. I've always seen where they have a table for cards/presents and then they are opened afterwards.
A lot of families put together a poster of pictures of the graduate at different ages and display any awards/achievements they've earned through high school along with yearbooks and such.
You can really do it anyway you want. A freind of mine had his open house the morning before graduation and did a breakfast buffet. It sounds like you've got everything covered! I bet everyone will have a great time!
Congratulations to the Grad!!!

hmmm sounds like you got it covered!!! I dont think you metioned music, but well thats usually a given....
as far as games... ummm i dont think so.. maybe a book of pictures with all Ashleys grade and highschool pics... and i like the achievement/award idea too.
other than that, just some "congrats graduate" decorations... Ive seen some at party packagers here.. maybe napkins, plates, cups etc... kinda make it more theemy kwim.

Re: O/T What Do You Do At A Graduation Party??
Thanks!! I didn't know about the opening gifts/cards or whatever while everyone was there. I know we do that at all the birthday parties we've had. This is a FIRST time for me on doing a graduation party...lol
I was thinking of doing a picture arrangement on poster board from birth every year up until now just to show how she's changed in looks growing up and putting that above the table where the cake and gifts/cards will be.
I just wanted to make sure I was doing what was normally expected for these things and not doing something I shouldn't be...lol

Re: O/T What Do You Do At A Graduation Party??
Amy, do you have any room for any outdoor activities for the kids to play? Maybe a volleyball net or croquet or horseshoes, frisbee, cornhole? I know at all the parties I've been to, there has been some type of outdoor "sport" to play. Other than that we just sit around, eat & visit with everyone.
I've also seen the pictures & awards displayed by the cake for everyone to look at. The graduate has never opened gift in front of everyone either. Save that for later, most of the gifts were usually cash anyways.
Congrats to your daughter and you! How exciting to have a graduate!!!! Have fun.

I made invites online for her but didn't actually send any out ( like you would be able to come anyway...hahaha!! ) But I am gonna print one out for her to keep as a memento.
Thanks again for all the ideas!!! I'm so excited and proud of her I can't stand it...lol

Re: O/T What Do You Do At A Graduation Party??
Her grad party is the same day as my sisters. lol. (She graduated last Sunday though). Anyway, we're just doing food and deserts, that type thing. The men will probably play horseshoes or whatever (pretty typical of my family) and there will probably be pictures of her up somewhere.
At my party 2 years ago, basically same deal. Just hung out, had food. We played twister (that was interesting...I won!) but no other games...and that wasn't even planned, we were just like ok, lets do something...hmmm...twister (lol. ok, so the guys might have come up with that because a few of the girls had low shirts on, but it was still a good time.) As far as gifts...I think I opened them as people came...Oh, and we also have a picture frame with my senior picture that everyone could sign. It was pretty simple, but thats how most parties are in my family...
One of my best friends had a bigger party...i think we even had fireworks lol. and her mom nhad brought the computer out and had a slideshow of different school pictures etc playing through the whole thing, plus all her sports ribbons and that type of stuff on display...
