We missed out on all the 4th of July Fun
Well, i really wanted to take aidan to a parade and fireworks, but i didn't know who was having a parade, and then he was sick, so i didn't want to keep him up late to see fireworks. I was SOOO disappointed, but, there's always next year, right!
We were out all day Saturday, and he was such a trooper, he had a fever that by Sat evening wasn't getting any better, so my mom helped me put him in a "cool" bath, Poor Baby! it was the worst thing we've been through!!!! He screamed and cried, I cried, my mom yelled at me for scaring him because i was crying, It was terrible. We took him to the er because even that didn't help. They basically gave him some motrin and prescribed him antibiotics. he's doing much better now, although now we're doing the b.r.a.t. diet because he's had diarrhea for days (which he got before the antibiotics) so i'm not sure what's going on with his little system. Doc says we're doing a good job because he's not dehydrated yet.
We also had her watch him walk, because IL's were convinced he wasn't walking right; She goes, "that's why they call them TODDLERS". I said, could you just watch him walk so we can tell them he's FINE! She did, and He's Fine!
for those of you have done the bath for a fever, was it not the worst thing ever?
ugh, i hope not to have to do that again!

Re: We missed out on all the 4th of July Fun
I never did the bath thing...I probably am a bad mommy because I prefer to just hold her and let her sweat it out and sleep along with Motrin and Tylenol. She HATES being cold, having cold on her face, etc. so I can only imagine the pain you went through with Aidan screaming! I am so sorry you had to endure that...and how can you help but cry and be upset when your baby is upset?? Your mom never cry when you were little?? Humph. ((HUGS)) You did the right thing...all around.
I am glad he is doing better. I hope his system settles soon. I bet his little booty is sore!
I like what the Dr said about "toddlers." Makes sense.

Re: We missed out on all the 4th of July Fun
Poor thing! I hope Aidan is feeling better by now!
The secret of the cool bath is to not make it cold. I usually make the water around 95-97 degrees which is cooler than the fever but not cold enough to give him the chills. When we were at Urgent Care with Justice a couple weeks ago with a 105.4 fever, they gave us cloths that were luke warm to sponge him with and keep on his neck. I also don't worry about cooling a fever with baths or wet cloths unless it is above 103.5 or so and I don't usually give motrin/tylenol unless the fever is 102 or higher.

That is just horrible. I'm sorry Aiden was so sick. Fevers always scare me. Glad he is doing better now.

Re: We missed out on all the 4th of July Fun
I tried making it not cold, just cooler than he was, but my mom is an Emergency Room Nurse, so she's pretty tough when it comes to that stuff, and she made it colder. She also said that you have to be careful with boys and fevers because it can make them sterile, so you can't wait it out.
next time, i'll be sticking with the motrin, that worked best;
thanks guys

Really? Fevers can make them sterile? Maybe a lot of them, but I wouldn't think one high fever would cause him to be sterile. Fevers are good. They're the bodies way of fighting infection. But what do I know.
I have to say I disagree with your Mom though on the cold bath. We always do the tepid bath too and it works like a charm. Room temperature. THat's always worked with my kids and mine run high fevers like the wind blows. Ridiculously often. It always makes them feel better because they start to cool down as the tepid water pulls the heat from their body.
Anyways, I hope he's feeling better. Sounds like some sort of virus with the high fever and then upset stomach. I hate those.

Poor Aidan, that is so not fun when they get sick. I hope he is doing better though.

I think the whole deal with cold baths is that it really just cools the skin, can cause shivering, which in turn can raise the body temperature.
