We were living in Eureka/Arcata, CA where there were no jobs, and Mom just got sober and clean. My Cousin had moved to NC following a boy she was dating whose family lived here. She ended up meeting someone else, got preg, got married, and my Aunt (mom's sister) moved out here to be with her daughter.
One day my Aunt called my Mom and they were talking about how stuck Mom and I were (I was no longer in HS, having gotten my diploma when I was 15) and needed a change. My Aunt said - "Why not move out here?" So we did. I was 16 when we moved, and was not happy about it...
But now, I like it here. I can get over the rednecks and Baptists, they don't live with me.... j/k

Chris is from NY and I had moved there to nanny. After a year of dating, we decided we were going to move in together. It was too expensive to live where we were on LI, so we decided to move. We made a list of places we wanted to live and started narrowing it down.

Chris had been coming to this part of Florida on vacation his whole life. His grandparents were living down here at the time (they were snowbirds, spending summers in MA) and his grandfather was dying of bone cancer. We decided to come down here to help them and then we would decide where we wanted to move. His grandfather passed away about 3 months after we moved down and we decided we liked the area and wanted to stay. We moved 45 minutes up the road to Sarasota and we've been here ever since. That was almost 9 years ago.

I lived in the town next door my whole life. DH is from around here and he works in the city and new jersey. The school districts here are top of the line. I didnt want to leave my mom and i really dont have any other attachments here. She is now gone and i am willing to go out west. No california though. This would only happen if DH loses his job, which doesnt seem like its going to happen soon.

I grew up in AZ, but we moved to CA in 2000 for DH's residency. We moved up to northern CA where DH had an extremely busy practice. We were 1 1/2 hours from the airport and I had CRAPPY friends. I missed my family soooo much so I told him we had to move. We actually live in Northern AZ now and my family is in Phoenix, but we're only 2 hours away now, much better than 1 1/2 hour drive to the airport and a 1 1/2 hour flight!

Eric had an amazing job here and I was tired of the long distance between us. I was flying ever 3 weeks to come visit him and I was tired of it. I told him things needed to change and since we were already engaged after dating for 4 years I moved up here to be with him. and we havebeen here ever since. Eric grew up here.

We came up here for my grad school, and I really regret it. I finished all of my course work, and then I had all kinds of issues, including the cancer, happen, and I never took my comprehensive exams. Now, it's been so long since I started, that I would have to start everything over again, and we just don't have the funds for that. So I feel like I moved farther away from my family for no good reason. And the worst part is that Dave really loves it here, and he does not want to move. So now, I feel stuck. The worst part is that I could have gone to grad school in Cleveland, which is where I wanted to end up anyway, but the MSU program was more highly rated, which is why I chose it. If I had gone with my gut instead of worrying about prestige, I wouldn't be stuck here in freakin' Michigan. Blech.

My DH grew up near here and we moved here 4 1/2 years ago b/c he wanted to come back and for an excellent job opportunity he had. He resigned from that job so I keep pushing to move back to Texas where I was born and raised but I think we will stay here at least for a while longer.

Dh and I met out of high school...he was from the town we live in now and I was from the next town over (city). We stayed together through separate colleges (an hour away from each other) I went to Spain for a year then moved back home after college where I got a teaching job. Taught in England for a summer. Dh is a year behind me so he finished school and then moved back home. We broke up/got back together about 100 times. He bought a duplex in my town and I moved in. We lived on one side and We rented to friends, saved money, sold the duplex at the perfect time and moved back to dh's hometown (diagnol from his childhood home). Love our town. Great neighborhood. Still close to city. Close to both families. I would love to live somewhere warmer, but I don't think it is in the cards for us...

I went to seton hall university which is the town over, and became familliar with the area. when m and i got married we looked at a map and tried to find the most central place between our jobs that had a good school district with house prices that we could afford.

I grew up here, and DH d the city where we were (where I did college and grad school). We looked at a house here and in another city--this one was the better deal. We just had gotten married and were pg for the 1st time, so it was gonna be good to live near my parents. It was also central for all my driving for work. Of course, now that's all up in the air!!!!!!!!

I haven't moved. I am living in the same house i lived in when I was 8. DH and I both grew up around here. My kids are in the same elementary school I went to and they had the same pediatrician until he retired!

I have lived so many places that I feel like I don't really have any "roots." DH claims PA, but he actually grew up in St. Louis, but ALL his family are in PA...except for his Dad's side has a few stranglers here and here...some in AZ, some in Germany...etc, but he was born in Altoona.

I would LOVE to live in California again. I miss it, and I wish I was closer to the rest of my fam and my Dad and step mom. But my Mom, DHs Mom, and all my friends are here.
So who knows? If we win the lottery (which is hard to do when you don't play, but whatever ) DH said we would still build a house here, but also get a house in Long Beach, CA where my Dad is.

Yeah, we would have to win the BIG lotto....houses half the size of mine are over a million dollars!

Dh and I both grew up here and neither of us have ever really lived anywhere else. We were living in a horrible rental that we called the "Chicken Shack" and decided we wanted to buy a house before we got married, so we bought this one.

After I graduate we are seriously considering moving out of state. We are going to see what kind of opportunities come up for me at the time and decide then. I'm really close to my family here, so it might be hard, but we will see.

My family moved around a fair bit when I was a kid and we ended up in the city (Perth) when I was a teenager...I met Andrew through friends and 1 month before we married, we took a work contract for 8-9months in Karratha (where we now live), which is about 1000miles north of Perth. 6.5years later and we are still here....we have had non-stop work and the contracts keep coming so we will stay for now. We plan on being here for another 5 years before heading back down south, to be closer to family.

my dh grew up about 10min from where we live. he lived here all his life. after we moved out of my apt at college, we ended up down here. i'm really not sure why.. i should have insisted on moving to the allentown area! we ended up with our house here b/c it's in a reasonably priced neighborhood that's still in a nice area and good school district. i desparately want to move! lol with any sort of luck i'll be living in nc or sc next year!!

I started out in AZ, then moved to upstate NY at 4, then moved back to AZ at 13, then back to NY at 19, met my husband, moved a few places in upstate NY, then he joined the military, and this is our first duty station. If all goes well, we will be moving to GA in a month and a half or so!

Technically, that's not true. I was born here, but when my parents got divorced my mother took us to Virginia for a few years...I really don't have any memory of it. When she decided she didn't want us anymore, she gave us to foster care, my dad found out and brought us back to RI. This is the only place I remember.
