Potty Advice/Support
I could use a bit of potty training advice (or maybe just support)!
Evangeline is 28 months and I have no doubt she is ready to use the potty. Last Monday we stopped diapers cold turkey (which I have been told by many is the most effective method). Since then, she's worn "big girl undies" all day (even for nap, but we do pull-ups at bedtime at night... there's no way she could stay dry for 12 hours yet!).
She has kept her undies dry all week! She clearly knows when she needs to go, and runs to the potty. (at first we used a timer to make her try the potty, but after a few days I knew she didn't need it anymore). She loves to wear the undies and keep them dry, and tells everyone she sees about it.
Here's our trouble...
when she does need to pee, she'll go to the potty, but gets scared/nervous when its going to come out. She will cry and try to get up, then hold it in. Sometimes she will tinkle a little and be done, but then she's gotta go again in 5 minutes because she didn't empty her bladder. And the process of her being scared/crying will start all over again. We do lots to keep her distracted/happy on the potty (color, sing, read, eat, etc.), but she still gets nervous/scared.
I figure it's only been 5 days, and getting rid of diapers and learning to use the potty is tough stuff for a little lady. She's doing great staying dry, but I don't want to her be upset whenever she has to pee. (ooh and after she goes, she's totally happy, gets a sticker, gets to call someone on the phone, and is very excited that she did it).
Anyone been there? Can I safely assume that with time she'll be less nervous and her fear will eventually subside? Any tricks to making her not so scared to pee??
Thanks a bunch!!
