Default Cassie and Kaylee

This was posted yesterday but on the wrong board and I didn't realize it until later.

Hi there again. We have been SOOO busy today! Cassie got sick on Saturday, started vomiting, major fever, and yeast infection explosion. We wanted to stay home if at all possible so I alternated the Tylenol/Motrin all night and started her g-tube going with Pedialyte since she wouldn't/couldn't eat anything. She perked up a bit yesterday and her fever broke in the early afternoon. We started her on formula again g-tube and even though she was a little gaggy last night she did ok. Today her throat was sore and she was pulling a little at her ears, so I brought her in to the dr. I wanted to also see how her ammonia was sitting since she wasn't in the hospital this time. She has tonsillitis and an ear infection, and will be going on antibiotics. She's also going on anti-yeasties because of that lovely explosion she had, this time oral since the ointments just aren't kicking it. It was a new dr for Cassie (nurse practitioner actually) so she was a little lost as to what to do with her, but she did well.

Kaylee had her blood drawn last week with abnormal results for liver function. It was retested with the blood drawn at 8 this morning. We got the results just as we got to the dr's with Cassie this afternoon, and her ANP is over 100 times the normal level! Her calcium is also very high, but not quite that bad. There are a few things this could be, some are fine and we can deal with them, some are scary as all heck. She goes in to see a specialist tomorrow at 9am. Thank god this time we don't have to wait long.

My SO and I also had dentist appointments today. My teeth were awesome lol. My SO had two cracked teeth (all the way into the root), 1 completely rotten tooth (one of the cracked ones) and one that needs a filling. The secretary made me so mad though. The dentist is 90 miles from here, and we had to wait months for this appointment in the first place. We get there, and she changed the time and never called us, so I asked her to look up the time for the boys' appointments next week and of course that's a different time than I had scheduled as well. I can't wait for the day she depends on me doing things I say I will! Ugh. Also, we told her we needed a long block (at least an hour) for my SO's teeth to get fixed. She scheduled it short so now he has to wait another month and two more appointments to get it all done. I have words for people like her and they aren't pretty.

Today Kaylee had her dr appt with the specialist, and he had an intern with him so talked a lot more about his thought process as he was going through things (nice for my sake lol).

First couple things it could be are problems with thyroid and parathyroid hormones. With her major weight loss, this would seem likely, but her thyroid hormones came back normal. They're testing just parathyroid today to be sure it can be ruled out, but that doesn't explain the weight.

Could also be ricketts. Not likely because she has the straightest little bones you've ever seen. Xrays were done of her hands to be sure, but they are very straight, even on xray (I saw the films). Not likely at all.

Could be an absorption problem with her intestines. He thinks maybe she can't absorb vitamin D, no matter what form it is (from food or from the sun). If she's having problems absorbing other nutrients as well this would explain the weight loss. Lots of tests being done for these ones.

Could be a brain tumor. More tests are being done for this.

Could be liver disease or injury of some type. More tests here as well.

Results won't be back for 4-5 days, and then he's expecting more appointments either with him or another specialist depending on the results. If it's metabolic, he also wants Justin tested at that point.

I know you're getting fed up and frustrated. Hang in there. Maybe I'll have some answers for you on Monday. Look at the bright side, someone is looking into all of it, not just saying nothing's wrong anymore.
