Maui is the perfect summer getaway. As a kid, I’d vacationed in O’ahu with my Mom, but Honolulu’s Waikiki Beach was overrun with tourists and reminded me of a more tropical Los Angeles. With its year-round balmy temperature, mountainous peaks and lush tropical landscape, however, Maui has preserved its natural beauty.

Day 1
For accommodations, we chose the Ka’anapali Beach Resort, a sprawling beachfront property in Lahaina that includes several luxury hotels. During our six-day trip, my fiancé and I sampled a few. The Westin Maui Resort and Spa, where we were greeted with fragrant leis and a warm Aloha, was our first stop.
