Icon14 Big day

So Liv had her half-day trial run at daycare today. We were there about 10 seconds when she deserted me completely to go play with the other kids. Her "teachers" told me that she introduced herself to the group, told them her address, how old she was, and what she likes to do. She played nicely with all the other kids, and took part in all the activities. She acted up (just with me) when it was time to go. I hope she continues to love it once the novelty wears off, but she had a really great day, and can't wait to go back. What a huge relief.

And while she was gone this morning, I got her closet cleaned out, too-small clothes put away, and her room completely "spring cleaned". The time flew by, but I got a ton of stuff done while she was out having fun.

Then we went for her 4 year check up ( a couple months early, but we needed documentation to get her into the daycare). It was the toughest visit yet. They started with a finger stick, so she was upset the whole rest of the time, and it ended with a chicken pox booster and a ppd test. No fun. Poor thing was screaming her head off.

Next stop was the mall, because Liv decided she wanted to get her ears pierced. Seriously, it was all her idea. She was ready to go. So she sat in the chair giggling nervously (it was so cute) til she saw the piercing gun. Then she started screaming and crying and trying to get away. So I had to hold her head so they could do it, and she was remarkably angry at the whole thing. We went up to pay and by the time I was signing my name, she was laughing and saying how pretty she looked, trauma forgotten. She keeps saying how happy she is that she has big girl earrings. Too cute.

So that was my busy busy day. We're gonna try to lay low this weekend, as I have to work all week next week (to cover vacations) and she has her 2 full days at the center.

Sorry this turned out to be so long! I shouldn't be surprised, it was a real long day!! I'm gonna go relax...

What a relief the daycare trial went so well. I'm glad. It will help mommy relax somewhat! Isn't it incredible how much you can get done without a child around - even in a short period of time! I've relish the odd occasion I get an hour or two on my own at home on the weekend - it doesn't happen very often - but boy how quickly I wip around with the vacum and mop, hoping for 15mins of relax at the end! LOL

Glad I don't have to go through the earpiercing trauma with Mason (well hopefully not at least until he is a teen!). Gee kids sure know what they want don't they?! Minds of their own You should hear the battles we have with Mason chosing his clothes for each day - his tears aren't because I won't let him wear something, but because he is unhappy with his choice and gets frustrated. Usually a couple of changes before he is happy to face his mates at daycare.

Poor Olivia at her check up. I wouldn't like a finger stick myself! We just had Mason's 4yo doctor visit also - all he had done were the 2 compulsory shots (we took along a special Spiderman "prize" to help him sit through #2). I'm amazed at how little attention is taken to children at the visits, I'd expect a bit more of a checking over and some questions asked, our doctor did nothing other than give the two shots. Oh well, I guess it's up to the parents to point out anything worrying?

So now the real fun begins, you're working 2 days this week are you? Let us know how Olivia does at daycare.

What a crazy eventfull day! I just love those....I wonder what I really did all day! Glad she likes her daycare and I hear you about the earrings! I am the peircer at our salon/spa and I actually admit that the younger the better (above 6 months) because it seems ages 5-10 panic the most and create the biggest scene. The little girls and older ones just kinda take it in stride....glad it went well. Just a quick note, did they give you cleaning fluid for the earrings? If not, please don't use alchol or peroxide on them....it just dried out the new holes and makes the skin adhere to the posts and that's the #1 reason for infection....there's a salon in my area that actually reccomends peroxide so just wanted to warn you! GL!

Thanks for the tip, Chrissy. They did give me a cleaning solution. So far, so good!!

Jenn, I usually work 2 days a week, but this week I'm working 4. Once we get settled into a good routine with the daycare, I'll bump up to 3 days a week, with my dh and mil filling in the gaps.

The daycare thing is going really well. She's made a couple of new friends that she talks about nonstop, and she comes home tired and happy and ready to go back, It's a little tough since she's there on Mon and Tues, so it's a long time til she gets to go back.

All in all, things are going even better than I had hoped for. I hope it keeps up!

Forming friendships is the exciting part! Mason has a couple of little buddies and I love to hear him talk about them. Good luck with the rest of this week.
