Default Maca Experiences and Observations

I was just reading some maca threads and it's obvious that we all have a lot of questions. I thought it would be nice to have a thread to share some of the things we have learned about it and also our experiences using it.

- Maca is really just a food. It's a potato grown in the Andes of South America. It's been eaten for thousands of years, so I think it's pretty safe to say that it's safe. Still, it's probably prudent to stop taking it after you get your bfp.

- I know it helps regulate your endocrine system (hormones) and that it does affect the pituitary which is responsible for releasing hormones related to ovulation and milk production. It DEFINITEY had an effect on my milk production -- it lowered it. (I'm still nursing my son.) That's a probably a GOOD thing because I do think excess prolactin, the milk stimulating hormone, in my system has been causing ovulation issues for me.

- I only took it for a week due to the milk production issue, but I DID ovulate this cycle and I DID have a regular 29 day cycle. I only just started bleeding though, so I have yet to find out if I'll have a good, strong and regular period. I'll let you know in a few days. I think I didn't become pregnant this cycle because my DH was out of town a little too much and we only got to DTD once during, what I think was, my fertile time.

- One more thing. I noticed that I felt really good this month. I had very little pms and felt pretty calm.

Hi! What a great idea I have been lurking here for a few weeks and have had several questions! I wondered what dosage everyone has taken and if it worked for them?

there!

I just started taking Maca (Maca for Life) and it says to take 3 pills with meals a day. They are 500mg tablets. I have heard that you can lessen the dosage if you feel that you would benefit from taking less of it. So far, I actually feel pretty good. I have been taking only for 4 days, too! Perhaps it's in my mind, but if my mind feels better, so will my body!

Hey, Barbara! Love the siggy!

I bought it off of eBay. I bought two bottles at 90 pills a bottle (which comes out to a two-month supply). It was $20 including shipping. Here's a link to one of the person's auctions so you can check it out:

Hi. I just wanted to chime in here. I bought some Maca and started taking it on 1/23/06. I am waiting for an appt. with a new RE and decided while I wasn't on any fertility drugs at the moment, and I usually don't ovulate on my own, this would be a good idea. That way, if it works, I can cancel my RE appt. and save tons of money/stress/time etc. I will let you know how it goes, but so far so good. I also have Fibromyalgia, and I've read it helps that too. So, that would truly be a miracle drug for me! If anyone else has any feedback please share!

Thanks!
Baby dust to us all!

Barbara!

All you have to do is register with eBay, it's fast and free! I used Buy It Now with this person. Just press the Buy It Now and agree to pay the price they have listed. I think this person accept checks, but if not you can set up a credit card with Paypal (which is also free to register). You can pay via your email addy with them.
