Guided meditation is wonderful!

Hi All,
Just had to share with you. I'm in the middle of my IVF cycle. Since I can't do Yoga, I'm working with my instructor to do some guided mediation. She doesn't know squat about fertility things, but she sure knows her stuff about relaxation, guided imagery, and concsious positive thought. I would have never considered this but needed something to help lift my spirits and decrease my stress what with the IVF and the hurricane worries here in FL along with the usual stress. I've done two sessions so far, The first on conscious relaxation; the second on second on envisioning my body parts esp. ovaries and uterus, loving, respecting, and encouraging them to work well in concert with one another. Just before my IVF I'll have her help me focus on getting my eggs ready to meet up with DH's guys and for my uterus/body to get ready to accept them and give them loving shelter.

Regardless of how this turns out, meditation has been a really positive addition to my life that I intend to continue. I've been able to use it to relax my neck and back without using OTC drugs and also as a shield from stress at work. Just wanted to share.

Hope you all are well. The board has been so quiet lately. Babydust to us all.

~Hope

I used the guided imagery in Twelve Weeks to Fertility when I started our IUIs. It was SO helpful and relaxing! I am now taking the hypnobirthing class series and am so excited that I am using these techniques to remain calm! They really are wonderful!

Hi

I have used guided imagery CDs before bedtime when we were doing our last IVF cycle. Currently we are on break and when I cannot sleep, I put the headset on and it helps me relax and sleep at night by clearing my head of all the everyday problems.

How could I get started in guided imagery? Is there a good CD or book, or is it better to work with someone one on one?

Thanks,

Andrea

Andrea,

I think it depends on the person. I bought mine at anjionline.com to get the gist. Then I bought a book with some scripts online at Amazon.com, then I just wrote my own and recorded them myself. Sometimes the CD just goes too fast (on the anji one for example, she tells you to start thinking of any negative thoughts, then breath them out until they are gone. Which is great, except that while some of us may only have one or two negative thougths, others will have 50 or more, so that by the time she is moving on to the next phase, I'm still trying to get rid of negative thoughts, that's why I did my own, using her own script, then changed my visualization to go with what would work best for me).

But some of us might like it better if we have someone working us through it. I think either way you go, you'll wind up doing your own thing eventually, you'll just have learned it in whatever way worked best for you.

But it truly is a wonderful addition to TTC. You're going to love it!
