Anyone know about False Unicorn Root?
This is a discussion on Anyone know about False Unicorn Root? within the Alternative/Herbal/Non-Traditional forums, part of the Trying to Conceive - Infertility category; Does anyone know about False Unicorn? I am going to ask my DR about it when I go, but I ...
Does anyone know about False Unicorn? I am going to ask my DR about it when I go, but I start my Femara tomorrow and was wondering if anyone knew if it is safe to do both.
I dont know if it would hur or not, False Unicorn is suppose to be a good herb. I'm trying a mixture from Dr. Christopher's herbs that has False Unicorn in it, and I like it. Herbs is the only thing that helps me get a lh surge, without it I dont O, and I've tried Clomid, and Femera. Not much info, but thought I would put in my 2 cents.
be sure to talk with your doc about it....but he/she prolly wont be incouraging but its still good to hear the docs point of view. i will do a lil research and see what i can come up with.
i did a cy where i took epo from cd1 until about cd 16. i thought i had o'ed so i quit taking it. but i o'ed a week later. and that was the cy i got pg!
with any herb make sure you know the ends and outs of it before you start it.

silly ticker you should say "weight gained" not "weight loss"
Dosage:
Decoction: Put 1-2 teaspoonfuls of the root in a cup of water, bring to boiling and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes. This should be drunk three times a day. For threatened miscarriage it may be drunk copiously.
Tincture: Take 2-4 ml of the tincture three times a day.
Well my Dr knows nothing about it. And as I am between OBs, I guess I will have to self medicate as I normally do. ;( This is rediculous my insurance doesn't cover anything to do with infertility, so I have to do most of this on my own, which really sucks.
it wasnt a big dip so i think your still safe i will check back in a few days and see how that temp is doing!
like shana said epo is Evening Primrose Oil. i took the pill kind 2 times a day. one in the am and one at night. not sure if it made me sick or not but i didnt give it a chance too hehe...when i took it in the morning it was around 6 when dh got up then i would go back to sleep.
it can make some ladies have an upset tummy or give them headaches. i didnt have any problems on it..but like i said i took it then went to sleep. good luck to you!

Side A says to take it from when your menses starts until ovulation.
Side B says to take it throughout the cycle.
(I've heard the same thing regarding Vitex as well. I've heard that with Vitex, it works best once given the chance to build up in your system for a few months.)
What's the majority vote in this? I've also heard that FUR helps prevent miscarriage.
I have heard that about Vitex also. I took Vitex for like 9 months, then I started Femara I stopped taking it as I didn't know if it would hurt. My OB prescribes stuff, but I am pretty much on my own after that.
I didn't read about the m/c thing, I will definitely have to look that up.
i wouldnt take any herbs once o' has happend. they can cause uteran (sp) contractions.
also dont expect a mericle from just using something for one cy. it may take up to 3 months before somthing starts to fully get in her system and make change.
best of luck to you on what ever you decide to do!

Sorry if I get a bit lengthy... I just want to be thorough in case anything I'm going through or have gone through is similar to someone else out there..
I myself have been struggling with infertility for awhile (10ish years with a few breaks in between where I'd either given up or wasn't in the right situation).
I was diagnosed with Endometriosis & Ovarian Cysts at 14. My family doctor put me on the pill to regulate it before I was even sexually active. One (male if it matters) doctor suggested removing one (the worst/right) ovary at 15 while my family doctor gave the THIRD opinion that he was nuts, didn't have ovaries or want children, and she gave me some orders to lay off caffeine and look into some other dietary and exercise plans as well. I stayed on the pill until 19, at which time my body went nuts, I didn't have a period for 3 months and then, sexually active, spent much of my money on multiple pregnancy tests (all negative), panicked (not trying to have children at that time), and ended up having hormone therapy after a dilation and curettage/dnc. I vowed to treat it as naturally as I could from then on. I'm now 35...
A friend sent me a link to arvigomassage.com about 6-7 yrs ago because she and I both shared the "joy of Endometriosis" (she didn't want anymore children and had a hysterectomy) and it interested me but I couldn't at the time find any practitioners in Houston.
Since then I've divorced, moved, become a yoga instructor/bellydance teacher, am with a different man who is committed to conceiving, and have been studying herbs and natural medicine as much as possible not just for myself but for others/other ailments. I befriended several massage therapists in the last few or four years, one of which was given the SAME link by both me and her acupuncturist partner. Soon thereafter she went to study with Rosita.
What Rosita understands is manipulation of the female reproductive system and *natural* regulation of the hormones (much like midwives, this is the difference between "alternative" medicine and the average "western medical professional" - looking at the whole and treating the whole, not just the symptoms).
For example, I was never told that I had a prolapsed uterus even when I got a massage by a Rosita Arvigo practitioner near me though she mentioned it happens - but in Belize, I was told that was definitely the case (and I got a little slap on the wrist to stop walking barefoot on cold ground which the previous practitioner HAD told me causes prolapses of the uterus! I guess I needed to be told while on the table and given an order by a stranger or something? Maya Abdominal Massage) and my mother explained that my long-since-passed Grandfather told her she had a "fallen" uterus as well as a flipped fallopian tube.. He flipped it with external massage (according to my mother what my grandfather had practiced on her was very similar to the self-care an Arvigo Practitioner teaches you to do on your own) and she was regular until well after he passed. She also had a baby after miscarriages and giving up a bit - thus here I am!
So all that precursor for this: please, if you are trying to conceive, check into the alignment of your organs as well all the other things we have to check into and keep track of as we try to do this miraculous thing.
I highly suggest finding an Arvigo Mayan Abdominal Massage Practitioner in your area and get some self-care training. I myself was also given the "Female Tonic" here in the states and then bought it and the herbs required to make it "over the counter" in Belize (and most recently here - so yah, I sell it but that's not why I'm here so I digress - your local practitioner should have it and if not, do your research and buy it yourself online if you wish/think it might help your condition. It's also great for women experiencing menopausal issues as it is an adaptogenic regulator which lets the body do the adjusting, not a replacement for something we assume the body is "doing wrong" or "cannot do on it's own", just fyi in case this interests anyone you know).. This regulates the system and for me, cleaned me out. It became very obvious to me that not only Endometriosis but also some constipation/bowel/belly issues I didn't even realize I really had played a major role in the state of my reproductive organs. All things being connected and such, ya know..
Anyway... I took a full round of "Hortence's Formula" recommended to me by an RN and had a lot of "cleansing" (mental/spiritual as well as physical) and as a couple we are now giving this a full-on gung-ho but natural attempt by taking Native Remedies Fertile XX & Fertile XY, both practicing yoga & meditation (trust me, getting this math & computer science double major to open up to meditation coming from an art major & new-age hippy-gone-yogini wasn't easy) to be sure we aren't having any mental/spiritual/emotional OR physical blocks that we ourselves could control, and I am about to start taking False Unicorn Root because I can't find a negative thing about it from the science journals to the message boards.. I do hear though that FUR can and perhaps should be taken through the first trimester especially if you are prone to miscarriage (see the last link on this post as well as - as always - researching more yourself).
