Has anyone tried this? Does it help with anything? I am not looking for an infertility cure, just a little help. I do injectibles and iui but I was hoping to find something to help boost my chances for getting pregnant. I was told this might help. Any thoughts?

Hi there! I personally haven't tried it yet but I have many friends that do and they have seen their hormones balance out. The two friends that just recently started haven't gotten a BFP yet but we are hoping it happens soon for them. Good luck and I have heard that it helps to calm you through the cycles!

I am going once a week. It's the only thing I haven't tried and my sig pretty much says it all. I figured it can't hurt. I'm a skeptic, but I'll give it a try. I'm not really doing any herbal supplements. I am trying some relax extract pills, but so far that's all.

I probably should go twice a week, but it's too expensive and I can't make the long drive twice a week. It would defeat the purpose. Once a week will have to do.

I admit I do feel relaxed after a session, but I tend to nap so maybe that's why! She's also watching my charts. She wants to see more stable temps which indicate my hormones are balancing out.

Star 622,

WOW you have been through so much!!! I am very apprehensive about accupuncture. I don't know if it will work, although I am only looking for an edge. I am not looking for it to make me ovulate. I take plenty of drugs to ensure that!! What made you decide to change RE's. I have thought of this myself. I always talk myself out of it though. Good luck to you and I wish you lots of baby dust.

After the third cycle my RE suggested switching and I agreed. I also had several polyps removed after that cycle. We did a 4th cycle with him just because... we had seen embryo progress, polyps were removed and I wanted a summer cycle. My goal was to squeeze as much in this tax year so the return would pay for some of it.

I'm going to do a 5th cycle at a new clinic and if that cycle fails, I'm trying on more clinic(too far for me to drive during the school year and winter) and give it 1-2 tries there. I'm hoping with a new protocol (adding lh), a different lab and different perspective that's all it'll take.

I've been told to not give up yet, so I'll do as much as I can afford. I make plenty of eggs, the process hopefully just needs tweaked. I was also concerned with my age, just turned 37, but both REs weren't concerned at all. Statistically, numbers aren't on my side any more.

Do you take any meds for your pcos? I take 2000mg of glucophage and 30mg of actos and that combination has given me natural cycles. I've had them since the late spring/summer of 2005. This current cycle was the first one I didn't think I'd have, but it was just delayed due to stress I'm sure. We are dealing with male factor issues as well, so we need IVF.

If you can afford it, try acupuncture. Ideally, I would have done twice a week, but I don't have the time during the week since I drive so far to get there. The stress of being gone and getting nothing done and paying twice as much a month wouldn't have helped me.

It's difficult to change REs. I really liked mine a lot. The previous one I went to wasn't my favorite. Ironically, I'm back at the very first one I had a consultation with in 2003. They accept my insur. now so visits, u/s's etc. are covered, just not ivf.

Did you get pg while with this RE?

Hey,

I take metformin which actually I just had the RE bump up. It was 1000mg now it is 1500mg. I felt that was what most women take and since this time it is taking a long time to get pregnant, I figured it couldn't hurt! Unfortunally, this is a new RE for me. We use to live in NC and that is where I got pregnant. We moved to NY so now I see the RE here. After a miserable ivf experience with them, I thought about switching. I interviewed a few other clinics, but I just felt more comfortable with my place because they are all basically the same. The last option would be to travel to NYC. It is pretty far so that is a very LAST resort.
My cousin's husband has male factor and she just got pregnant doing ivf. It took her 3 cycles, but she is pregnant. Don't give up hope. Just when you think all is lost, that is when it happens. I felt that way with my dd. I thought for sure the 3rd cycle had failed and I had wasted a ton of money. Low and behold, I was pregnant. I am praying lightning strikes twice for us. I just started my 3rd cycle today.
I did try the acupuncture and I liked it. I didn't like the needles or the pain, but after I felt so much happier. Did you feel like that? Almost like a weight was off of me. It is so weird. I don't know if it is the acupuncture or my imagination. Did it hurt you when the put the needles in? It really only hurt in my arms and wrists. I don't think I would want to go 2x per week. I have to work myself up for next time! At least I feel like I might be making some differece in my own treatment. I always feel like the RE calls most of the shots, with the acupuncture I am in charge of that.
When do you start your next cycle?

Default Re: Acupuncture

I've only had some discomfort a couple of times... my foot and near my knee. I dislike the one in the forehead, but it doesn't hurt and it's fine once she puts it in. I love the heat lamp on my stomach!

I missed the cut-off for a cycle before the end of the year. My plan is to start bcps in December and hopefully have a Jan. cycle. That'll give the acupuncture some time to do it's thing. I hope acupuncture isn't responsible for this incredibly long lp.

I've not seriously considered clinics far away such as one in Colorado or NYC. My RE recommended one in NYC, but I'll try the other two in the state that I feel will be just fine. The one in Colorado wouldn't be a good match for me as they seem very conservative with the number of embryos they transfer. I refuse to spend $20 grand for just 1-2 embryos. I don't need an entire baseball team, but 1-2 isn't enough for what I've been doing.

My situation really shouldn't be that difficult. With enough time, patience and money, it'll happen.
