This is a discussion on What does your LO keep repeating?? within the March 2007 - Babies In Bloom forums, part of the Born in 2007 category; I can not understand my child.

His absolute all time favorite "word" is baa-boo. He says this for everything! It's said as a question, a command, a plea, everything.
Last night he was in the tub, screaming for no apparent reason, and then just stopped and whined "baa-boo? baa-boo?" Huh!?!?!? I was feeling frustrated, saying to him, I don't know what you want, baby, tell mommy what is wrong so she can understand??
That same phrase can mean happy stuff, too.
We have never done bubbles and he doesn't have a lovey name and we don't own a baboon so I am VERY confused.

Caleb loves to come up to me while Im laying down, get 2 inches from my face and tell me "uhhh, blob-bab- uhhhhh" and I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT MEANS.
have you tried humoring him? I usually joke with Caleb and tell him "thats so cool" or "really? you dont say" and usually he starts laughing. he is trying so hard to have a conversation with us that we just keep talking and humor him
that is too funny are you sure steve isn't hiding a babboon somewhere???
LOL
Christian has his own made up language and he lectures us sometimes with it and point at us....The good thing about Christian is that he points to everything he wants and i tell him oh you want the cup and he just laughs at me
How funny! My first thought was "bubbles" until I scrolled down and saw you wrote that he shouldn't know about that right now. You'll figure it out though. My ds1 was always saying, "oh-bih da-doh"...it frustrated me to no end cause he said it all the time when he was about 14-15 months old. He was saying "Open the door". Looking back, it shoulda been so obvious to me what he was saying....and it'll probably be the same way once you figure out what baa-boo means.
Jaymin is saying something repeatedly these days, but I just figured out what it was....He says, "my,my,my,my", but I realized he's trying to say "mine, mine, mine, mine"......from Finding Nemo when the seagulls are chasing the pelican. DS1 wants to watch it everyday, so even though Jaymin isn't watching, I guess it's getting in there somehow.
I am definitely hoping for that a-ha moment! And Kendel, you are right, I am going to think when I finally figure it out!
We definitely humor him and talk back, asking questions and agreeing with him. Sometimes his hand is outstretched so I point to the object and name it.
We shall see where that secret baboon is hiding I suppose!

Leo says "sauce" all the time, which originally started as "applesauce" (yes, he used to say the whole word!). He's gotten lazy and only says "sauce" now and it seems to mean food of any kind, as he says it whenever he is hungry or we pass the kitchen. For a few weeks he was signing "eat" at those times, but now he says his word for food instead. Weird kid.
You will have to keep us posted Stacey! Hopefully you'll figure it out soon. Have you asked the daycare teachers if he says it there? Maybe Christine is on the right track thinking the bubbles or something came from there?
I'm sure you'll figure out and then he'll come up with a new one to baffle you. Zeon says ka ka the most recently, but I know he's imitating the crows. Whenever he sees any bird though, he says it.
Well if you ever turn to nickelodeon it may as well be called SpongeBobChannel cause it's gotta be on at least 14 times a day.
Kian doesn't really say anything that I don't know yet. He just babbles incoherently a lot and I guess HE knows what it means, but I sure don't! I just nod along, the same as I do when I didn't hear what someone said but want to pretend that I did.
Colton goes on and on like he's having a conversation with me and I honestly have no clue what any of it is. Thank the heavens for sign or I'd be completely lost. I tend to do what the other girls do and just say something like "oh yeah?" or "you don't say?" and he seems pretty satisfied with it for now. I'm sure after awhile he will look at me like I'm stupid for answering him with nonsense.

Well, since Mommy's just sitting there on "bedrest",
I guess someone's gotta do the laundry around here!
Well I found out that DH did do bubbles outside with him on Tuesday....but that doesn't explain the incessant baa-boo that came before that day! He has added another sound to that one.....aah-poo. What the heck? It's not apples, he doesn't like those.
I guess he is just sticking to those sounds, hoping one day his dumb parents will get what they mean!

claudia calls her belly button a bobby or boobee, and she also calls a sippy cup, my breast, things she doesn't know the word for...almost everything is a bobby or a boobee.
here's a little funny story. a co-worker brought her puppy in one day, and claudia was quite taken with the puppy. now the co-worker's name is "gog." every time she sees her, she says, "gog? gog. gog." then something that sounds like she's asking where the gog is.
