Default Went to the pediatrician today!

So yesterday Kate had this rash type thing between her waist and her belly button. I didn't really think anything of it since I hadn't given her any new food. I thought maybe she had sat in a wet diaper too long but then I realized the rash would have been elsewhere too. Then last night when Matt was giving Kate a bath we realized it was on her back too. She spent a lot of the night coughing in her crib and the past few days she had some goop in her eyes. I just thought she had a cold and wasn't about to take her in for just a little cold until I wondered if the cold and the rash could be related.

This morning I called the Ped at 9 and they told me to come in at 11. Apparently, Kate has eczema. I was surprised because I hadn't known that it would look rashy. I thought it would look more like dry skin. He also looked in her mouth, eyes, nose, and ears. Apparently my gal has her first ear infection. I had NO CLUE! She occasionally pulls on her left ear when she is drinking a bottle but I thought that was due to teething. But the infection is in her right ear. So we are now on amox and have to run the humidifier when she is sleeping. Of the joys! At least she does't seem to be in too much pain.

Oh and here's the kicker - she weighed in at 17p 10 ounces! Isn't that crazy? In the last month she has gained over a pound!

Sorry to hear about the ear infection and eczema but woo hoo on the weight! Yay! Did they give you any cream for the eczema? Emma had it when she was little and Julia has a little on her back too.

Ashley I thought of poor little Elissa and her million ear infections while we were at the Ped's office!

Jenn, no cream. He suggested I put Vaseline or Lubriderm lotion (or anything Hypoallergenic) on her often and reduce her exposure to water. Since I already only give her a 5 to 10 minute bath at most, I am going to start bathing her every 3 days instead of every other. Hopefully that will help.

Poor Kate! Those ear infections are miserable. Glad you figured out what the rash is being caused by. Leo had one similar, but we realized it was from switching diapers. Woohoo on the weight gain!!!

I used huggies baby bath with shea butter and it helped with their excema. My older 2 had it when they were little. i think Caleb got lucky b/c we got the water softener before he was born. about about 2 weeks of bathing after we got it the older 2 were all cleared up

hope her ear feels better soon. i never know when Derek has one and then i feel bad i didnt notice

Hmmm.... that makes me think because Megan has these little spot of rashyness (is that a word?) on her lower back. I wonder if its excema. I will start putting some lotion on it and see if it goes away. YAY for the weight gain. She has caught up with Megan.

Kristina, if you need any advice on controlling eczema, please dont hesitate, we've been battling for months now, our eczema is some type of atopic dermatitis which is basically eczema, we've been using cetaphyl products (cleanser and cream) and that helps a lot.
Our dermatoligist suggets a good lotion or cream on the skin while its still kinda wet, and the key is under 2 mins from removing them from the water, hope that helps

Kate sure is growing so quickly now, goooo kate

Glad it was something manageable and not some reaction! Hope you can find the right combo of things to help clear that up soon! It's so crazy about the ear infection thing! See, with both of my boys, I've never been able to tell they had one, and we'd find out about it at some random appt. It makes me wonder if they've had them other times too and I just never knew it! I've always tried to be hyper sensative about watching for signs of ear infections, cause I have a niece who is deaf, and for the longest time, they had suspected bad ear infections to have caused it. That wasn't the case in the end, but I can't stop being sensative about it now. But I guess if they are bad ear infections, I'd know about them!
I have a story about DS1 pulling his ears. at around 6 months old, he started tugging his ears, so I flipped and thought ear infection. He would pull them throughout the day, but there was never any other symptom. After one of his well baby checks during all the ear pulling, and no infection diagnosed, I finally figured out that he tugged his ears when he was tired! How funny, right? So, I watched, and like clockwork, he would pull on one or both of his ears before each nap and bedtime. Silly kid! It was kinda like an expression of his frustration about wanting to go to bed!

Kristina, I'm sorry Kate has an ear infection. I hope she gets better soon. After having Megan, I now have ezcema on my hands and feet, and it can get so itchy. In addition to the aforementioned tips from Jillian and Krystal, my dr. told me to use aquaphor and put socks on my hands and feet. If I do it regularly, it works well.
