Icon5 Tell Me Im Not Alone... THE BOTTLE

Is anyone still using a bottle? Jordan was off it at 10 mos, Derek by 10 mos 1 week. Caleb is absolutely not budging with this. We have resorted to using our fridge lock again b/c he opens it and helps himself to a bottle. I keep them in the door of the fridge in case he's having a sleepy-time-melt-down but he knows where I keep them. I moved them and he climbed in the fridge to get it.

I posted recently about him giving me a kiss, saying baba, kiss, baba, kiss, baba, he was determined. He did the same thing with DH today. I guess he thinks if he cuddles enough we have to give him what he wants?? And he gave DH a full on lip pout and kept saying BABA, gah-gah baba, gah-gah baba (gah-gah is dadda, lol.. he CAN say daddy but only says it when Dh gives him what he wants). DH went to put him down for a nap and Caleb told him "baba dadda" It's hilarious but I think dh has just gotten used to being gah-gah.

We do have the rule that if he has a bottle he must be in bed. Down to 3 a day. Nap time, bed time and usually 1 other time when he has a melt down just to get one. If we dont give him he starts smacking his head on the tile or on door jams so we try to not let it get that far (after less than 5 minutes of freaking out for one he does that). So I put him to bed with his bottle (only 3-4 oz, other 2 times its 6-8 oz) and when hes done he throws it out and wants out.

Any tips for bottle breaking? Id like him off of them by my surgery but I dont see it happening at this point.

Im going to try nesquik for ALL of them in the morning. Derek only drinks milk from his cereal bowl. So I give him cereal, fill it all the way up with milk and give him one of those Cereal Straws (fruit loops or cocoa krispy flavored) and he downs the bowl (around 10 oz milk). Yet even Derek refuses milk from a cup, has since he went off the bottle.

We are still having bottles. Rostam is still needing to suck. I have not thought of how I will wean him but I'll figure it out later.

We still do bottles. She only gets them at our house. Somehow Grandma can get her to sleep without them. I have so much to do at night in getting Mary Elizabeth to bed, I haven't thought of getting Megan off of them.

We still use them 3 times a day. Don't have time or energy for weaning at the moment.

We transitioned from the bottle to the straw sippy cup quite easily. I also put Ovaltine in his milk which I think helped a lot. I also had a sippy cup of water/juice sitting out for him. Each day I took away one bottle....nap, nap, nighttime. It was a rough couple of days, but eventually he took to the sippy cup without fussing. He was off bottles completely in about 4 days.

still using a bottle here....
Christian didn't take a sippy cup until about 2 months ago and i still not able to really down anything in a cup, but will down it in a bottle.
I don't think Christian is that attached but i really don't think he is ready to give it up since he would probably boycott drinking milk all together

We did it cold turkey a couple months ago and it wasn't that bad (although I never put her to bed with a bottle ever). I gave them away so we wouldn't resist giving in. It's amazing how quickly she forgot they existed. I went cold turkey with all my kids and that was definitely the way to do it for us. Within a couple days it was as if they never got them and no more worrying day to day as to how to wean.

We are still having about 3 bottles a day. Kian also only gets them when it's nap or bedtime.

Jillian, honestly, with everything else you have going on atm, I would just let him have them for awhile longer and not worry about it. When things calm down and you're feeling better, worry about it then. JMHO.

I'm not worried about them at all. I know plenty of people who had bottles way longer than this and their kids are fine, not psychotic or anything Well, hmm, I forgot my MIL did take a bottle until she was 3, so I might have to take that statement back But you get my point. They're not going to take it forever and if I had a lot going on I would wait until things settle to take it on. No shame in that, I don't think.

Mary Beth that was hilarious, thanks i needed a good laugh!

He is starting to BITE the nipples which is what J and D did when we had to take them away from them, cold turkey and without issue. J was more than willing to give it up at 10 mos old. a week before his 1st bday he got really sick and was refusing the cup. the doc said give him a bottle (if he'd use it) or they were admitting him. At the time DH was in Iraq, preparing to come home so I gave the bottle back. He drank so much gatorade he was beyond hydrated, lol (couldnt have milk b/c of congestion). I took his bottle away about 10 days later, the day dh came home was his true last bottle. we had so much going on, Jordan was acting out of sorts so he had his last bottle on the tarmac, daddy came home and back to the cup we went, very EASY.

Ive tried to give Caleb a cup to go to sleep (bad habit I know but we ALL go to bed with some sort of drink) and he will down it and throw it at a wall so i hear it. little stinker
