Swine flu (H1N1)
What is your opinion on the swine flu? I am a bit concerned because its winter and flu season. Also we had the soccer confederation cup and a lot of international rugby games the past two months in South Africa. Our first swine flu case was a 12 year old American tourist but he is fine.
Are any of you going to get the vaccine? Don’t know how true it is but I read the following
“in the 70s the swine flu vaccine (yes it was around in the 70s) caused so many people to die from Gillian Barr Syndrome because it wasn't tested properly”
“vaccine has not been around for long enough to know the side effects”
I don’t think it’s such a big concern as long as you go see a doctor when you get flu like symptoms and get some meds for it. A lot of people die from flu every year. I wonder if this H1N1 isn’t blown out of proportion.
It will be months before the vaccine is available in South Africa in any case. I don't think I'm going to get the vaccine if and when it becomes available here.
