Spotlight on - Kitty!
Its time to get to know Kitty. We want to get to know you better and learn more about you. I'll start with some questions and then everyone else can jump in.
1. What's you name?
2. Where are you from? (be as general or as specific as you want.)
3. How would you describe your personality?
4. What do you do for a living?
5. What is your favorite childhood memory?

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
How would your high school friends describe your personality back then?
Did you cheer, play in the band/orchestra, join the art club, etc?
Do you belong to any organizations now? Any playgroups?
What kind of car do you drive? What would you love to be driving?
Do you have a most embarrassing moment?
If you could do anything for a living without having to spend time in school again, etc, what would you choose?
What is your favorite dessert? Meal to cook? Drink? Place to vacation?

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
Wow! I just got back from vacation and saw that the spotlight had started on me! Thanks guys!
1. What's you name? Rachel
2. Where are you from? (be as general or as specific as you want.) North Georgia
3. How would you describe your personality? I'm pretty shy and reserved with people I don't know, but with those that I do, (unfortunately) I have a very Type A personality. I can be a real control freak.
4. What do you do for a living? I'm a SAHM now, but before this I worked at a veterinary hospital for 8 years.
5. What is your favorite childhood memory? Probably going every summer with my family to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. My grandparents, aunt and cousin, all live in TN and we only got to see them once or twice a year. So we would all meet each summer in Gatlinburg for days of playing in the pool, shopping, eating out, and just talking. It was great!

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
How would your high school friends describe your personality back then? As a bigmouth! LOL I could be very outspoken. Most would also (I hope) say sweet, kind to others, and friendly. I was also very quick to stand up for people who were being made fun of or being treated unfairly.
Did you cheer, play in the band/orchestra, join the art club, etc? I was in chorus for 5 years and loved it.
Do you belong to any organizations now? Any playgroups? I am a member of PETA. But for the most part, I live in a really small town, and I don't honestly know if there are any playgroups around.
What kind of car do you drive? What would you love to be driving? I drive a Geo Prizm. I'm not really a car person, I'm just happy to have a reliable sorce of transportation ! I see lots of nice cars out there, but I couldn't tell you what kind they were. I did, however, see a PT Prowler once, and it was awesome!
Do you have a most embarrassing moment? Geez, I know I have had a ton of embarrassing moments, but the only one that I can think of right now happened when I was in High School. AF showed up when I was at lunch one day, and I wasn't prepared. I got up to go to the bathroom, and I had blood all over the back of my pants and even in the chair! It was horrible! I had walk out in front of a packed lunchroom to go to the office to call my mom to come and get me. Since there were a lot of people in there, I stood with my back against the wall and whispered to my mom that I'd had and "accident" and needed her to pick me up. She didn't understand. She kept saying "What happened, are you hurt?" Ugh! I finally had to blurt out in front of everyone that I had started my period and had blood all over me! Needless to say, that stopped the conversations going on around me! I was sooooo embarrassed that I went home and stayed there for the rest of the day.
If you could do anything for a living without having to spend time in school again, etc, what would you choose? I really, truly don't know. I keep trying to think of something, but nothing specific comes to mind. At this point, all I can say is that it would something that makes a TON of money without doing a whole lot of work - like an actress (but I know I would be a horrible one) who only works a couple of months out of the year and makes millions!
What is your favorite dessert? Meal to cook? Drink? Place to vacation? I LOVE vanilla bean cheesecake (like from Red Lobster and TGIF's). My favorite meal is probably spaghetti with chicken parmasan and garlic bread, and my favorite drink is sweet tea. I haven't been to many places at all, so I guess I would have to say that Gatlinburg, TN is my favorite place to vacation. I would love to travel to new places, though. Hawaii, or a Carribean cruise would be nice .

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
Okay, I just want to explain my answer about what I would do for a living and why I chose something that would make a lot of money. No, I am not a materialistic, money-hungry person. I am simply sick and tired of worrying about money these days with the cost of gas and food skyrocketing out of control. It would be nice to have so much money that I didn't have to worry about it for a while. I said an actress because it seems like they make the most money the fastest. And most of them have personal trailers on the set that their kids stay with them in. How great is that?
Aside from the whole money aspect, as for my personal enjoyment, I think I would still like to do something working with animals. Maybe in a wildlife rehabilitation center, or taking care of the baby animals at the zoo. I think that would be absolutely wonderful, and extremely rewarding!

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
Rachel, no need to explain! I didn't read that as if you were money hungry at all...I would love to earn tons and work less, that's for sure!
Will you post some more pics of Asher? What about posting some of you so we have a face with a name now? Care to share your hubby pics, too? We want to see who Asher looks like!
How did you come up with your screen name?
Do you belong to any other on line groups?
Where did you just go on your vacation?

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
I'm not very good with the computer, so if you look at my post above, I changed my signature page so you can see pics of me, DH, and Asher. The one where they are playing guitars was taken only about 2 weeks ago. The next one was taken at Halloween. And the last one was taken when Asher was only 3 weeks old.
I came up with my screen name simply because I love animals! I was setting up my profile when I was at work at the vet one day, so it just came naturally.
No, I don't belong to any other online groups. Do you?
We went to Tybee Island, GA on vacation. The weather was beautiful and the area of the beach that we stayed at was private and very secluded. You could see dolphins constantly jumping out of the water, and a guy actually caught 2 stingrays while fishing off the beach! There were lots of jellyfish though, so I was scared to get in the water. Asher LOVED the beach! If I hadn't kept a constant hold on him, he would have run straight out to sea. LOL The seafood was really good, and we went to the historic Pirate's House Restaurant in Savannah for dinner one night. It was wonderful, and has a really cool history. DH hated the beach and stayed in the condo most of the time. That's why I don't have any beach pics to share. I was hanging on to Asher so there was no one to take them! The beach was a nice change from our usual vacation to the mountains, but I think next year it will be back to Gatlinburg for us all!

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
Hey Rachel! Welcome!
How did you meet your DH? How did he propose? Were you engaged for a long time before your wedding?
Are you a high heels or sneakers girl?
What hobbies do you enjoy and how do you spend your free time?
Did you go to college? If so, where did you go and what degree did you get? (If you don't mind sharing!)
Love the pictures! Also, if you don't mind me asking, where did you stay on Tybee Island? I think that may be our vacation next year! I'd like someplace economical (as much as you can get).
I also loved Gatlinburg when I was younger. Lookout mountain was great! I remember riding the "tram" up a mountain - so cool!

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
How did you meet your DH? How did he propose? Were you engaged for a long time before your wedding? I met DH through mutual friends in 1990 when I was only 14 years old and he was 16. We've been together ever since! He proposed in May 1996 at a small lake nearby where we would often go to feed the ducks. He got down on one knee and everything. It was so sweet! He had even asked for my parents' permission and showed them the ring months in advance. We got married in a small church ceremony February 8, 1997, so we were engaged about 9 months. In total, we have been together for 18 years!
Are you a high heels or sneakers girl? Sneakers! I hate getting dressed up, and I don't think I even own a pair of high heels. I am totally a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl.
What hobbies do you enjoy and how do you spend your free time? What free time? LOL I love reading. Mostly historical and time-travel romance novels. I also like biographies and autobiographies. Sometimes I will even go back and read the books I loved as a kid and teenager, like Ramona Quimby, teen romance novels, and Christopher Pike books.
Did you go to college? If so, where did you go and what degree did you get? (If you don't mind sharing!) I went to a small community college about 15 minutes from my house. I got my Associate Degree in Accounting. Although I loved accounting in school, and kept a 4.0 GPA almost the entire time, I hated it when I actually got a job in it!
Love the pictures! Also, if you don't mind me asking, where did you stay on Tybee Island? I think that may be our vacation next year! I'd like someplace economical (as much as you can get). We stayed at the Savannah Beach and Raquet Club. Each condo is individually owned and decorated differently. I thought the price was really good, only $129 a night with a $50 clean up fee.
I also loved Gatlinburg when I was younger. Lookout mountain was great! I remember riding the "tram" up a mountain - so cool! We've taken the tram before, too! I think I might be too scared to do it again now that I'm older, but had a great time when I was a kid.

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
Well darn, my work computer is blocking your pics. I used to be able to see the one of Asher in your siggy, but now all the boxes show up as red x's for some reason. Bummer! I'll try and look from home.
And nope, this is the only group I belong to online. I signed up for a local mommy's group, but thought I better not get involved with more things stopping me from actually working while on the job!
Where did you go for a honeymoon?
How did you celebrate Asher's first birthday?

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
Hmmmm.... I don't know why your computer is blocking the pics. I can still see them, so maybe you'll be able to from home. Strange.
We actually didn't go anywhere for a honeymoon. Since we were so young, I was only 20 and DH was 22, we didn't have a lot of money. Also, we had never lived anywhere except with our parents, and we had built a house, so we were really excited just to spend our first night there! We didn't want to go anywhere else.
We celebrated Asher's first birthday at my SIL's house in Atlanta (it's huge!) My parents, my sister and her family, DH's parents, and of course his sister and her family were all there. We decorated everything in the Backyardigans. We had a great time!

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
How awesome that you've know each other for so long! Sounds like a romantic proposal. You and I would be great friends I think. I hate getting dressed up and own one pair of heels that my mom made me buy for a wedding. I live in jeans and T-shirts and I went to school for a human resource degree - did well grade wise but hated doing the job. Not what my parents wanted to hear.
Favorite movie?
Favorite kind of music?
Favorite place to shop for you? For kids clothes?
Favorite color?
Favorite food? Drink?
Favorite beauty product?
Favorite outfit?
Kay...that's all the favorites I can think of for now.

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
How did you find SK and why did you decide to join? When I was a couple of months pg with Asher, I was going to all the pregnancy sites to look at symptoms, growth charts, etc. Then I saw that the SK site also had Due In groups. After lurking for quite a while, I decided to join. Everyone was so nice, and it was wonderful to be able to communicate with a group of loving, supportive women who were going through the same thing I was. I LOVE all my SK friends and I don't know what I would do without you guys!
Do you plan to have anymore children? We are actually on month 6 of TTC. I had an early m/c back in April. Hopefully, this month will be IT for us! We would like to have 2 kids. I think large families are great (my sis has 6 daughters and 2 stepdaughters!) but, for us, I think 2 will be enough.
What does a typical day look like for you? DH leaves for work about 7:30am, and Asher and I get up about 8. We play for about an hour, then I feed him breakfast. After this, we play, watch "learning" type shows on tv, and I try to do a little housework and get myself ready for the day. Then we have lunch at 12. After lunch, Asher takes his nap - on me. He will not nap in his crib. I don't really mind because it gives me a chance to rest and watch the news and my soap on tv. He usually gets up about 2, and if it's not too hot and the weather is nice, we will usually either go to my parents' house or the park to play for about an hour or two. If I have any errands to run (which I usually do) I do them next. Then it's back home to start dinner. Asher loves to watch me cook. He also loves watching the Food Network and all the cooking shows on there. I hope he turns out to be a great cook, because I'm certainly not! LOL DH gets home from work at about 6. So we eat dinner. Then DH plays with Asher so I can get on the computer for a while. I give Asher a bath about 7:30, then start trying to get him calmed down for the night. He usually goes to bed about 9, so it can take a really, really long time to get him to go to sleep. Once he's in bed, I take my shower, wash Asher's sippy cups, and try to relax and spend a little time with DH before bed, which is around 11:30. That's about it. The only time it really changes is once every week or two my mom and I will try to go out to lunch together, and every Saturday we eat lunch at DH's parents' house with his sis and her family. We also go to church every Sunday. I hope I haven't bored you to death! My life is not very interesting, but I love the routine.
What's your favourite animal-domestic and wild? I love both cats and dogs, for different reasons. Cats can be very loving and cuddly, but they're also pretty independent - which can be nice. Whereas dogs are always happy to see you, and always want to be with you. I had a chihuahua for 11 years, and he was my first "baby." He slept with me, went everywhere with me, and was my best friend. But that dependence made it very hard for me to leave him alone or go on vacation. KWIM? He passed away this past October, and I loved him dearly and will always be grateful to him for teaching me how to be a good mommy. As for a wild animal, I would probably have to say that the elephant is my favorite. The way they live in family groups, take care of their babies, and mourn when one passes away is amazing.

Re: Spotlight on - Kitty!
Favorite movie? I don't think I have one absolute favorite. But I love the movie Napoleon Dynamite, and 80's type movies like Doc Hollywood, Sixteen Candles, and Better Off Dead. I also really like romantic comedies.
Favorite kind of music? In general, I like Oldies. But my favorite band is the punk band the Ramones.
Favorite place to shop for you? For kids clothes? I live in a small town, so there aren't many places to shop for clothes. I usually buy my clothes at either Cato or Wal-mart. I get Asher's clothes mostly at Carter's. I love their stuff, it's so cute!
Favorite color? Most pastels. But pale pink is my favorite.
Favorite food? Drink? Spaghetti with chicken parmasan and garlic cheese bread is my favorite meal, and sweet tea is by far my favorite drink.
Favorite beauty product? I love Kissink Lip Tintmarkers from Avon's Mark line. They look like a magic marker, don't feel like you are wearing anything at all, and stay on all day.
Favorite outfit? Jeans, a t-shirt, and tennis shoes!
