I fully understand that as a teacher I really wanted my daughter to LOVE books. I probably started this. Actually I know I did. But Kate will not stop having me read books to her. It starts out as sweet but when I read the same 2 or 3 books 5 times in a row EACH, I get a little bored! She just sat on my lap (I am sitting on the floor) and said "read" and I said to her, "Don't you want to play with some toys?" She responds with, "No sit. Read again." Is this kid serious? At this rate, I am going to need to hide these books for the day by lunch time. I think I need to head to the bookstore to get some new ones. Don't get me wrong, I love to read to her, but she loves the same books over and over and over again! I can repeat them without reading them and I would bet that she would be able to too if she could talk better! I am now sending her to give toys to Oliver so I have at least 10 minutes on the computer in case DH needs to come back home and get it.
Yes! I have two! If its not one wanting to read a book, its the other. Julia is in love with the "That's not my...." series and I had to order two new ones recently so I wasn't reading the same ones over and over again. Emma can now read the bunny one, the train one and the penguin one to Julia herself because she has them memorized. Julia also loves the little book we have about Wyken, Blyken and Nod. I read that book 15 times yesterday alone. Oh....and this book that I got for Emma ages ago "Ouchie, Owie" is another one we read over and over. I'm actually going to get more books for them this week because I'm getting to the point that I dread either one of them coming to me with a book.
Are you kidding me with the 2 word phrases Kate is saying?! Wow, she is way ahead of the curve! I thought that was supposed to happen around 2 yrs old!
Anyway, back to the topic. Chase loves to look at books, but he isn't keen on sitting still in my lap for long. I can read the first 2 pages, then he is done with reading and ready to turn them all to the end and wiggle away. He looks at them all by himself, but doesn't care really, about hearing what is on the pages.
I bet you are sick to death of the same stories!!!

I just read Counting Kisses for the 9th time in the last hour. UGH! We are so going to the bookstore today! I am thrilled she loves books but mommy needs some variety!

Totally not kidding about the phrases. But then again, she hears me say them over and over to her. I try to teach her to say "again, please" but please doesn't seem to be part of her vocabulary. I think Matt's taught her to say "read again". Then again, when I repeat something to her 35 times a day, I think she starts to remember it!
She's also very big into sitting in my lap lately. I think she senses change is coming and she wants to be as close to me as she can be. Although my lap is slowly running out of room!
Kristina - What does Kate do at the bookstore? The last time I took Julia to Barnes and Noble she just stood in the middle of the kids section and kept turning in circles. I think she was in awe of all the books that were there. I couldn't stop laughing at her!
I used to take her to story hour at the same time my mom would take my nephews (before she started napping at that time!) so she's pretty familiar with it. She doesn't listen to the story teller read though. Usually I keep her in the stroller and will hand her books to see which ones she will look at the longest. I think it's so overwhelming for her too! She's such a book worm that she could spend all day there. Especially once she gets near the books that make noise! I don't think we've been there since she can walk so maybe I will take her out of the stroller when we go there next and see what she does.
Wow, thats awesome that she is starting to say things together that make sense. Megan is only into her book of objects where she can point to different ones and tell me what they are, but she wont sit still for the actually story ones! That is so sweet that Kate is wanting to spend so much time with her mama before the new baby comes!
Talking is all I've got here! You all were blessed with babies that slept and ate early on - Kate did neither of those things! It was such a struggle to get her to eat and especially sleep. We were the last to crawl and so I will take the talking! It's all I've got!
Wow, Kate sure is amazing with those phrases! We've been working on "More please" for weeks and haven't gotten anything from Leo!
That's so great that Kate loves to be read to! I can remember my little brother and sister being the same way. They were toddlers when I was in high school and I can remember them sitting in my lap for the longest times while I read the S-A-M-E stories over and over and over and over and... oy! Kids love repetition, that's for sure.
Right now Leo is really into these tiny books I bought at Borders on clearance. There's 8 board books in the set and they are the perfect size for his hands. They come in a little carry-case too. Each book has a different theme-- food, things around the house, animals, toys, etc. and each page has just one picture along with the word. He will sit for a story book too, but much prefers to look on his own at this point.
I wish my kids were like that, they werent till they got older. Even now at 3 Derek wont let me just read to him. but i havent tried in a few months so i should prob try again.
we had to remove all the books from Jordans room till he gets a taller book shelf. Caleb is ripping the pages out of them and eating the board books.
Zeon isn't quite as bad as Kate, but he definitely has his favourites. He consistently grabs the same book for storytime before bed when I tell him to bring me a book. He loves looking at books by himself too.
And I too am totally blown away by Kate's communication skills! Wow. Better than many of my students who have been studying English for years We are also many months away from phrases. WTG Kate!
Colton loves books, too. I know I started it by reading to him way before he could even sit up straight. He has his favorites that I have to read over and over again, however, he will sit in his room by himself and go through them so it does give me a little bit of a break.
Love that she's so vocal and can communicate so well. You're right, you did get a bum deal on the eating/sleeping/crawling. You deserve talking!!

Well, since Mommy's just sitting there on "bedrest",
I guess someone's gotta do the laundry around here!
Glad she loves books as much as her mommy. Megan loves to hear books, too. She will listen for hours. We have so many books that we never read the same one twice, and so far, she hasn't demanded it.
