Default Diapers...

CLOTH that is...I have NEVER used them and I know its silly to try to start now... Saylor is almost 16m old and weighs 22-23lbs... but I'm really interested in trying it out! Any opinions on brand? Type? Size? and all of that?

Anybody know where I can buy some for really cheap? I know this may sound gross but I'm even willing to buy some that are used as long as they are in really good condition!! I just want to try it out! LOL

Ooo, Mary Beth can help you with this....she just changed to cloth not too long ago for Kian. There is a good starter set out there, but I don't have the link saved on this computer. She'll have it though. Good luck if you give it a try! I'm interested in doing it too! Now I just have to save up some money for the starter kit!

It's not silly! I started using them a few months ago with Kian and I couldn't be happier. The main reason I started using them was cost, I realized we were spending around 60 bucks a month on diapers and that is just ridiculous. And with the way prices are going up every day there's no telling what we would have ended up spending.

If you are looking to be economical with it, I *highly* recommend starting with prefolds and covers. cottonbabies.com has a trial kit that is around 30 dollars and has 6 prefolds, a couple of covers, and a snappi (a snappi is this cool little gadget that allows you to secure the diapers without needing pins). That's what I started out with. You don't want to go overboard and get too much before you figure out what works for you.

We also have 2 or 3 fitted diapers, and let me tell you they are so wonderful. They were more pricey, but you could probably find them used if you pay attention (I don't think it's gross, there is a huge market out there for excellent used condition cloth diapers). I love the fitteds because they are so soft and absorbent and they wick the moisture away from his bum so I don't worry that he's uncomfy. With prefolds, be prepared to change your baby quite a bit more often because when they're wet, they FEEL wet and it would be uncomfortable for baby. Honestly though they shouldn't be sitting in wet diapers all day whether it's cloth or disposable anyway. I know I was guilty of leaving my son in his disposables way too long, now I change him much more frequently and I think it must feel better to him.

One good thing about CD's is that if you keep them in good condition, they have an amazing resale value. So even if you spend a little initially you could recoup it when she PL's.

For prefolds, I would just check out cottonbabies, I've ordered from them and I found it to be great quality. Stay away from gerber PF's or anything from wal-mart, most of that stuff isn't good enough quality and will just make you hate CD'ing.

For fitteds, I have one thirsties fab fitted and I love it, and I have one bumgenius organic bamboo and I LOVE it. They are so soft and luxurious that I just feel happy when I get to put it on his bum.

BTW, I haven't done this yet but I am still planning to, Stacey had a code recently where you could get 10 bucks off at diapers.com if you hadn't ordered from them before, plus if you order like 50 bucks worth you get free shipping, anyway they have a small variety of cloth diapers, but they have bumgenius all-in-ones which I hear are really excellent and super easy to use diapers, they're very similar to disposables.

I could go on and on so please ask any questions you may have. I will say that even after the "new" has worn off, I just absolutely LOVE cloth diapering, and I feel so good about it, plus I'm saving a ton of money. It's so great for the environment and much healthier for your baby, too.

Dropping in from BIF. We just started ourselves. I am a working mom and the sitter wont use cloth so I am not going to be saving a ton but....I wanted to try. I have two covers and diapering part time I never have a time when I dont have a clean cover. I usually dont wait for a diaper load to wash the dirty one...I throw it right in with his every day wash if I dont have a full diaper load. Its never caked in poop just maybe some around the leg opening. Watch the size of prefolds. I made the mistake and thought they were all alike...nope some are larger. Also I would get some doublers I think they are called. An insert that helps absorb. I started using them and LOVE them. I also have AIO's that have snaps and just do not like the fit of them or the fact that snaps take to long...my guy is on the run.
