I've seen that video before Karen. That's a little too long for me I think. Although I have absolutely loved the bonding time, I want my body back just for me. Selfish, yes, but I want to be done and i don't think I will have deprived him of anything.

Oh my...I just heard a story on the radio this morning. Definitely waaaayyyyy longer than my comfort level.

A dental hygienist (sp) called in to say a patient brought her 2 year old son to the dentist office that day. Mom was getting her teeth cleaned and sat the child on her lap. The staff member said the child was staring at her intently, then began to cry. Mom lifted up her shirt and exposed her braless boob so the son could nurse..on her lap...on the dental chair while getting her teeth scraped.

He was satisfied for a few mins, sat up and was calm then starting crying again. Apparently that side had drained and so she offered the other side...and according to the caller, he must not nurse on that side often because she proceeded to sit there and grunt while her mouth was open and he nursed.

Whoa.

Oh my! I'm not so against nursing til they are 2, but that just seems like an inappopriate time to be doing that. That child is old enough to be able to hold off from snack time! I guess I'm just too shy/reserved to be whipping my boob while in the dental chair!!

Matt reminded me of a story that my L&D nurse told us when I was delivering Caroline: a woman was in labor and her 6 year old wanted to nurse so she nursed him while she was having contractions. I can't imagine nursing a 6 year old, let alone nursing while having contractions!

Carter just weaned at 15 months. I didn't really have a "goal" per say, I just nursed as long as he seemed interested. Finally, he stopped asking for it, I think partly because my supply dropped so much due to my weight (for some reason I lost a lot of weight after having him and I don't think my body was making much milk as of late.) I am still a bit sad about it, though, especially when I unpacked my nursing shawl from the diaper bag
