Icon14 The best gift!

Christine talking about her cooking last night made me remember that I forgot to tell you all about the best gift we got when Caroline was born. Matt's partner from work and his wife gave us a personal chef for 20 meals. He came to our home and made 5 different dinners (4 servings of each) and cooked all day. Our house smelled sooo good! They are all in the freezer and the ones we have eaten are delicious. I thought it was the greatest gift since I feel like I don't really have time to cook these days. We have friends who are having twins in the fall and I think we are going to give this gift to them, as well.

That is an awesome gift for new parents!!!!

My issue would be not having enough freezer space to store it all.

So how does that work? Did he bring absolutely everything, down to spices and all? And what about the freezer part...did he bring tupperware/bags/whatever for that, too? Did you get to pre-select what dinners you wanted him to prepare (from a list beforehand?)

So glad you are enjoying that gift!

That's neat!! This company that I told you about does that, too. When you deliver, they deliver..... That's cool that he came to your house. Did he have a website?? My friend, Sandra, is a chef, and she is thinking of something to do for a business. That seems like a good idea.

That's an awesome gift!! I would have paid for that myself when I had Julia. Why didn't I think of that? I think that any new mom you give that to is going to absolutely love it!

It actually doesn't take up a whole lot of freezer space for 20 meals. He brings his own containers - Ziploc stackable ones. They just stack on top of each other in the freezer. He also labels them all.

Ok, this is how it worked:
He came to our house to meet with us and see our kitchen space. He brought the menu which was a little different than the one posted on his website. We picked our meals (and added an additional one). Then we scheduled a date.

Ken came at 12 noon and brought everything he would need. Including dish soap and a trash bag. Then he started cooking. He only uses our counter space and the oven and stove. When he's done cooking a meal, he puts it in the Ziploc containers and then sets it in front of fan so that it cools. When its cool, he pops it in the freezer. We've started sharing the meals. Most of them are enough for two people easily. They have been delicious!

Christine, here's his website:

Holy crap that was a nice gift indeed! They spent around $350 I would guess since his fee to cook is $225 and "you" buy the groceries when he tells you what he spent.

I don't even have enough space to store those containers, but you better believe I would be cleaning out my freezers if I knew he was coming!

Enjoy.

I'll see if I can get out to the garage and take a pic of the space they take. We've only eaten a few meals so far. Yes, it was a very nice gift. Not many people send gifts for a second baby...

Wow, that's fantastic!!! Awesome gift! I had considered going to one of those places where you prepare your meals before I had the baby, and was really interested if I could find someone to split it with me, since they have a minimum, but I couldn't find anyone. Now I can't do it anyway.

What a great gift! I wish somebody would buy that for me. What kind of dishes did you choose from Kristina?
