Icon5 Anyone use cloth diapers???

With the new baby on the way & Kodi still in diapers....I was thinking on changing over to cloth. There are several reasons I want to change
1) Cost
2) Environment
3) I hear CD babies potty train better
4) I hear that they can be better for the baby

O.K. ladies - after all of my children - this will be the first time I attempt to CD
what are your thoughts

I am thinking of the one size diapers that way I can use for Kodi & also for Kaleb -
I also like the idea of the pocket diapers - for ease of use - but they can cost a hefty amount up front (although I know that I will still save tons of money)

What type of CD's do you use - how well do they work?
What are the best fitted CDs - or do you prefer prefolds?
How about the inserts / doublers?
What types of covers work best as far as leaks, comfort and rash prevention?
Do you like the flushable liners?
Any laundering tips???

PLEASE HELP ME!! It is a cloth diaper jungle out there (eeek)!

I don't have any specific answers to your questions but I have heard that the CD board on SK is great. We were going to cloth diaper but I hear it's only really cheaper if you CD more than one child because then it all gets reused. I decided not to CD because we knew we'd have 2 close together (they will be 14 months apart) and I know keeping up with laundry isn't going to be a priority for me.

Good luck with what you find!

I never tried them because my mom told me that I broke out a lot when she tried them with me because they wouldn't come clean enough so I didn't want to take the chance in case my son has as sensitive skin as I do =/. Good luck though, I hope it makes things easier and is cheaper!!

I don't but my bf does. I think she spends a lot of time on thebabywearer.com and they are a good resource for it as well. Are you planning on using a laundry service for them or will you do it yourself? She was going to use a service, but there isn't one where we live.

Good luck!

I will launder myself
I do not have a service that will do a home pick-up (although they would do by DH's or my work) but that just makes the expense much higher.

I do :-) I didn't start till bry was around 6 months old and my 5th child. LOL! I now use them on both bella and Bry. I am super new to cloth and don't know everything but can share my experiences with you.

What type of CD's do you use - how well do they work? I have lots of different brands but my favorite for ease of use and NEVER EVER LEAK is fuzzi bunz.
What are the best fitted CDs - or do you prefer prefolds? I haven't quite got the hang of prefolds, I have them but they aren't really my thing. I know everyone RAVES over the muttiquin baby ones. I have one and although they are gorgeous as far as fabrics, they are spendy and don't work that great for my kids.
How about the inserts / doublers? mother of eden microterry inserts work really great!
What types of covers work best as far as leaks, comfort and rash prevention? I have heard wool is wonderful. I have some but don't feel the love like most people do.
Do you like the flushable liners? Nope
Any laundering tips???I wash every load with a little bleach. Untill I figured this out, the diapers would still have a smell to them. I was them once on cold and 2 times with Hot. also turning my hot water tank as hot as it will go also helped with the smell of the " clean " diapers. I don't use the special soap reccommended either.
HTH's :-)

Wow, I say kudo's to anyone who wants to tackle that! I distinctly remember my mom using cloth on my brother. Watching her shake the poop into the toilet and then putting the dipe into a soaking pail beside the toilet was smelly and I was only 4!

I haven't done any research on the topic, but wanted to agree with Christy that there is a CD board on SK that other members have mentioned. I also heard it was a spendy adventure upfront.

I guess you would need to calculate your investment cost and add in the number of loads of laundry you are doing. If you are washing dipes 3 times every time and turning up your hot water heater, that is a considerable amount being added to your electric and water bills!

Good luck, I hear it's very addictive once you start!
