Default Weekend sitters

I am hiring a sitter for the first time outside of the family and the normal daycare provider so that I can attend a baby shower next weekend. I am very nervous about dropping Collin off with someone he doesnt know. Its not that I dont trust her...she will be great BUT I have to wonder what he will think and how he will react. Any advice on how to make that transition?? I have one week to prepare him and am not sure how to go about making it easy for him.

I'm sure he'll do fine. Sounds like he's going to her house? I'd say just bring some familiar things in case he gets a little anxious and not worry too much about it. How long is he staying with her?

I agree with Lisa bring some things that he is familiar with and hopefully that will help. Good luck and I hope it goes well.

I haven't used a sitter yet. We are sooo overdue!

A new friend referred her sitter to me. She said that another mom she referred her to had Susie come over to her house for a couple of hours while she was there, just to "make friends" with the kids and see how it went. They have now used her 7 or 8 times. I may do that when we need her.

Could you have your new sitter come to your house sometime this week? I suppose I would pay her half her rate for her time, kwim? Or invite her for dinner instead, but that way Collin can interact on "his turf" and she won't be a total stranget when you take him (with a bag of his favorite toys) to her house.

Have fun at your shower!

I have yet to do that also, but I would think to bring familiar things as well. May be show up a little earlier so you can spend some time with her and him so he has a little while to get used to her. Let us know how it goes and make sure to enjoy yourself at the shower!

glad i'm not the only one who has yet to hire an outside-the-family sitter. i've always wondered how Cadence would react, but she did great with the out-of-state company we had this past weekend. all they had to do was pull out a book and read to her and she was sold!

We haven't used a sitter either, only family. I did subscribe to babysitters.com just yesterday because we need some help when I go back to work. I really like the idea of inviting her over to play on his turf. Colton does better at home than he does at someone else's house. I think taking his toys may help, even some special treats. I hope you enjoy the shower and he does well at the sitter. Good luck!
