Hey ya'll,
Well I guess I will start off by giving with a little information about myself. My name is Vanessa I am 24 years just got married 11/18/2006. TTC for about 3 years now. Have been on Clomid six cycles, no success. Had a HSG done-blockage on left ovary-OUCH!! DH had a semen analysis-very good results. Finally got referral to RE from OB my appt was 3/20 and I diagoned with PCOS. So no eggers being released and if they are they are to small to be fertilized and if they were fert. by some crazy chance would proably end up in m/c according to RE. So as of 3/20 they put me on Met. 500 mg's for the first week and tomorrow I start taking 1000mg's. FYI- not looking forward to it b/c it really upsets my stomach hopefully my body will adjust. When I begin my next cycle. I am suspose to call the office and they want to start me on Femara. I am exicted b/c RE said sometimes women with PCOS did not respond very well to Clomid but they do with a combo of Met/femara. So after they start me on Femara they want to do a u/s and then if follicles look good do a trigger shot. If Iam not O on Femara they want to go to injectables. It is depressing (PCOS) but very relieved to finally have diagonsis and be with an aggressive RE. I would like to know about any experiences you have had with Femara or Met or anything else for that matter. Good luck to all and I am so glad to have other people to talk to and offer support/prayers. Preggers to all

Thank Erin, Good luck to you as well. It is really good to hear that Femara is not as bad as Clomid "evil drug".

Nessack,
I Have Also Been Diagnosed With Pcos And Have Been Taking Metaformin Since December... They Started Me On Femara This Cycle... When I Had My U/s Done I Had 2 Follies On Cd 13 But Doc Said They Weren't Big Enough Yet To Wait And Do The Trigger On Cd 14 So Thats What I Did... I Am Still Awaiting To See The Results Bfn Or Bfp... The Side Effects I Had With Metaformin Only Lasted 3 Weeks By The 4th Week I Felt Normal. Prior To That I Was Extremely Sick At My Stomach Mostly In The Morning... Now Here Is What I Have Experienced With Femara So Far I Am On Cd 26... I Took Femara Cd 3 Through Cd 7... I Have Had Cramping Since Before Ovulation, My Moods Are Horrible... I Usually Get Moody Mid Cycle But This Has Been Very Differant... I Have Head Aches More Often Than Usual... I Have Felt Extremely Bloated I Have Noticed That I Have Gained A Few Extra Lbs In The Last Few Weeks I Haven't Changed My Eating So The Femara Has To Have Something To Do With It... I Can't Really Blame It On Metaformin Cause I Was On It For 3 Months And Weighed The Same... I Am Now Awaiting That Wonderful Bfp... I Have Gotten 1 Negative Actually Today... But I Am In Hope That It Was Just To Early And I'll Get That Bfp... Good Luck To You And If You Have Any Questions Or Concerns I Will Do My Best To Help...

I really hope you get your BFP this cycle too. Thank you for letting me know what your side effects were on Femara/Met. There is a great story on the PCOS board in the spring chatty about a women you did Femara/Met and were told he follicles were to small this cycle (first cycle) and got BFP. Just thought this might help keep chin up, your right if could have been to early to test. As for me my last CD was 3/17 so I have a long wait before I cont. the long journey. Keep me posted!!
Lots of BABY DUST!!

Nessak!!!! Glad to have you here. I have no experience with the met/Femara combo, but I know lots of ladies around here probably do. I hope you find the support you need here. Glad to know you have found an aggressive RE to help you. That is always the ticket to a (in my opinion). Hope you will join in with us on topics and games and feel right at home.

Here's some to welcome you!

Hello Nassak - welcome to the femara board! These ladies are great! This board helped me with all my questions in the beginning and really helped relieve alot of my stress.

I didn't have horrible side effects with femara but I did have headaches and weight gain. My dh said that my moods weren't too bad. lol. I never had any side effects with the metformin though. Guess I was just lucky. HTH!!

Hi Nessack,
This is my first cycle on Femara, in 2000 i was on Clomid which gave me horrific side effects i was an "emotional bitchy version of myself" which was soooo not pretty....and also, i was a bridesmaid in my friends wedding.... which was such bad timing....poor bride having to deal with me.... she was stressed i was stressed....but thankfully we got through it, and she still is a good friend....a friend that is thankful for Femara...On femara i am only experiencing some headaches and occasionally tearful...But it is a FAR FAR cry from clomid....I had Ovidrel Trigger on saturday and my 1st ever IUI on Monday, now i am trying to be hopeful...I do wish you luck, and I do hope we all have wonderful news soon

Wow! That is so awesome your first IUI, and you had good follicles, I will keep my finger crossed for you- Sending 1,000x's baby dust your way. You are right the side effects on clomid are terrible-I call it the evil drug. So far from what I have heard from you and other women is that is nothing compared to Clomid and the side effects are slim to none expect almost everyone has complained of headaches. I dont look forward I already get enough of those- proably from stress and taking care of 15 3,4,and 5 year old children at work everyday lol. Please keep us posted- This is your first round of Femara right? Can I ask why did they want to do a IUI?
BFP BFP BFP!!

Yes this is my first round of Femara. The reason my doc wanted to do IUI, is 1. he feels potential for BFP increases, and 2. Clomid with no IUI was not so successful for us.
I welcomed his request, i felt so helpless for yrs, and was sooo ready for more help. I wish i could say i have a lot of faith in this 1st cycle, but i don't as i have posted on another threas, my own doc did not do the IUI, and i had a new doc do it, whom bluntly told me "This will probably not work for me" So it kinda squashed what hope i had, this was monday, and now today Wednesday, i am feeling a little more hope, i got angry and i am going to push that man from my mind for right now...But when i see my doc, I will let him know what was said and how he made me feel.....But i am not giving up!
Also on a plus side w/femara, my headaches only lasted a few day, and when i did cry, i did not feel uncontrollable....I feel i have more control of me on Femara....Please keep me posted, if you feel tough times you can always drop me a line GOOD LUCK!!!

Louise,
Welcome to the board! My name is Shannon and I'm a host on this board. I used Femara years ago, but did not end up needing it to get PG. However, it led me here and to the support I needed during my 3+ years of IF. My problem ended up being and auto-immune problem that was fixed with steroids instead. But I've seen some great things happen for people on this board in all that time.

Good luck on your cycle. Sounds like you have a great shot at a . I'd just ignore the other doc too. I hope you will join in on the games to help pass the 2WW. Let us know if you have any questions. There are some awesome ladies here.

lou-
I was on six cycles of clomid with no luck, My o's were a hit and miss. It kinda makes me sad knowing that bfp is more likely with IUI although that def. makes sense. You will have excuse me tonite, just kinda in a bad mood, it has been a rough nite- My RE wants to put on me on Femara and cont the Met (I think) and send us home with some kinda of calendar about when to take meds and bd, and also schedule a u/s and trigger shot if all looks good. Sorry but spirits are kinda down tonite. I will write tommorrow- GOOD LUCK GIRLIE-
Does anyone know how I can post my picture in profile-etc I know this may sound stupid but I cannot figure it out-What is going on- I cannot even find my profile it says I do not have access to this page!!?? What
GOOD NITE C-YA LATER

I know I'm kinda late and you ladies have been around here for a few days, but I want to welcome you both, Nessak and Louise, to the board! Agggh, I just got so behind these last couple of days! As for side effects compared to Clomid and Femara....I didn't have any on Clomid and I really don't notice much of anything on the Femara either! I guess I am one of those lucky ones that don't experience bad side-effects (**knock on wood**). Watch, I'll probably have super-duper bad side-effects this next cycle just because I said that!!

Nessak- Try not to get too down in the dumps, girl! I think your doctor is probably trying some other stuff first before he starts to consider IUI (eventhough the potential of a increases with IUI). Plus, you are still young so he/she probably doesn't see the need of rushing into IUI yet. You still have plenty of fertile years ahead of you! Just keep your chin up and try some more Femara/Met cycles....and I bet if nothing happens, your doc will move you on down the line onto something more aggressive. I know it's really hard, but don't give up hope yet! There are lots of ladies out there who got knocked up without IUI too! Hang in there!

Louise- Nice to meet you and welcome to the group! I hope you find this board as helpful and supportive as I have! That is so exciting that you just had your IUI on Monday! I really hope your 2WW goes by real fast and doesn't drive you crazy!

I hope to hear from you both real soon and look forward to getting to know ya'll better!

Vanessa- Sorry we all missed your post about needing help with your signature! I'll try to explain how to do it.

-make sure you are logged in
-at the top of the page, you will see an orange bar going across the page that has the following: User CP, FAQ, Members List, etc, etc.
-click on User CP
-under Control Panel (on the left hand side), click on Edit Signature
-a box should come up where you can enter text, pictures, tickers, etc.

Entering text is pretty self-explanatory, but if you want to put in a picture, you have to load your picture onto a photo-sharing website (I use Photobucket- it's free!). Once you upload your pic there, it will give you several codes underneath it and you'll need IMG Code. Copy that code and paste it in your edit signature box.

For a ticker, go to a website like tickerfactory.com, make your ticker, and use the bbCode it gives you. Copy and paste that into your edit signature box.

Hope this helps....if you need any more info/help, let me know!
