Default Opinions please

Hi, I have dabbled here occasionally as I have not started Femara yet. I am supposed to be talking to my OB sometime soon(he is supposed to be calling me) and would like to get as much info on Femara as I can. I have read all kinds of articles and stuff, now I am looking for opinions on how well and any side effects of so I can go to my OB with all the info I need. I have an OB that does not tell me what I should do, but I have to go to him and tell him I want to try this or that.

I would appreciate any and all opinions and experiences with Femara. Thank you

S/Es from Femara are much less severe than with Clomid. Some things I experienced were headaches, hot flashes, nausea (like morning sickness) and some fatigue. These all subsided when I started taking my femara before bedtime. If I had them, I slept through it and it didn't carry over into the next day.

Have you checked out the info thread at the top of the page? There's lots of info there, that the original host gathered and posted for reference.

I also generally had about 2 follies each cycle when I was on Femara. Sorry I'm not of more information. It's been a long time since I used it; since I'm one of the original bunch that started this board. I'm sure some of the other ladies that are currently using it can be more specific with s/e's and other info. Good luck to you!

Hi Shana:

I am having a Femara baby!!! My story is a bit crazy and I had lots of other challenges but in the end we had success and on our first CY too....which I know was a miracle as it general take some time to get your special recipe right.

I have sever Endometriosis and have had since I was a teen. I was told to have my children young if I wanted my own and the doctors had recommended a hystrorectomy in the last few years due to the pain I had been suffering with. I had a total of 3 Lap surgery’s to try and keep my endo under control and this last time was to make sure I could still have children.

After my Surgery this summer I went on Femara from day 4-8 of my CY. I missed day 3 as I did not see my doc till day 4 but he was confident that it would still work. I took two tabs a day for 5 days. I did not notice too many S/E's from the med. The only thing I really notice was I did get more headaches but they were pretty easy to get rid of with some Advil or Tylenol. I did not really suffer with any other S/E's.

On Day 11 of my CY I went in for a scan to check on my follicle development. I had one mature and one almost mature. The doctor went ahead and ordered the trigger shot of Ovidrel for me. I had to take that on the morning of day 13 of my CY and then we were told that BD'ing was mandatory that night and on day 14....everything else was optional. We added a few extra days and times to make sure we were coved.

Then we had the dreaded two week wait. Waiting and wondering and I was an emotional wreck. To be honest I am not 100% if it was from the meds or from the stress. I think it was a combination of both. I ended up having a complete melt down but I made it though.

I test a bit early....I could NOT wait any longer so it was 13days passed the trigger and 12DPO. I got my first Pos. Of course it was a Friday and my doctor was away that day so I had to wait all weekend to get a confirmation. I ended up tested with 5 tests (2 different brands) over 4 days making sure it was real. Then on the following Monday we got the confirmation from my Doc.

We were very luck and it just happened to be the right recipe for us. I truly hope you find yours. Sorry I do not have that much more info on the drug its self but for me it worked very well and I am so excited.

GOOD LUCK!!!! Let us know if we can help in any other way.

Well I have PCOS and started my IF treatments just with Clomid, that gave me headaches, and My uterus was thin with it, so I used estrogen as well, when I started using the Clomid, with Metformin and IUI I got pg, but lost it Did more 2 cy with the same combination but BFN.Then I did one cycle with Femara, Metformin and IUI, and did not have any side effects, but got a BFN, so I went on a break and got pg without treatment, just Metformin

Hi!
I tried just a few Clomid cycles, did not work, then my RE moved me on to Femara, which at least has been making me ovulate, though no success yet. I found little side effects compared to Clomid, but am experience some hair loss, nothing people would notice, just me.

My twins are due to a cocktail of femara with a follistim(sp?) chaser. Mixed in a AI and IUI shaker. It did not take long for me to get a +, only a few months (4), but that was only with 2 actual months of AI and IUI, the other 2 months were just bad timing. Best of luck to you and getting that BFP.

Wow that is great, so many sucesses. Congradulations on all the PGs.

I am going to talk to my OB about Femara on my annual. Praying I get my BFP first of course. My OB is a little or alot slow on the help, as my insurance does not cover anything to do with fertility. So I have to do most of the research myself and tell him what I want to do. most frustrating.

Thank you for the experiences.
mommaphoebs ~ Praying we both get our BFPs soon.
