Default New to femara

Hi Ladies,

I was told about this forum by another forum here.

I have been ttc for 2 1/2 years. I have only one tube, due to a TR. I have moved on to IVF. This was my thrid attemp and it again was cancelled. My lining is just too thick. Seems that my uterus get ahead of my follicles. So my RE is putting me on femara next time. I am just wondering how it works and if there are any side effects and how well it works for helping the lining.

Thank you!

Hello and ! Glad you found us! Femara works a lot like clomid does, without wreaking havoc on the uterine lining in the same way clomid does. I would recommend that you check out the sticky up at the top of the page titled Femara and Fertility Information. There's a lot of good info on the s/e's and how it works on the body. I would also recommend that you take your Femara in the evening before bedtime. This seems to help people avoid the side effects since you would be sleeping. Some of the more common s/e's are headache, hot flashes, mood swings and nausea. They are nothing compared to the severity of Clomid's s/e's. I hope that you find Femara works for you.

You mentioned you had a TR and that you were left with only one tube. Was one of them too damaged from the TL to repair or what? Where did you have your TR? I only ask because I had a TR back in 2001 and my daughter is a TR baby and we are currently expecting TR baby #2. Good luck to you!

I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hi Shannon,

I had my TR by Dr. Berger in 2005. I was left with both tubes, but I had two ectopic pg's and the last one I lost my tube. My right is open but I haven't had any luck with getting pg with that tube.

Thank you for telling me about the Femara and Fertility Information page. I will take a look at it.

Congrats on your two TR babies!

HI Michelle:

Welcome to the Femara board…..you will find all the ladies here totally AMAZING and helpful. I wish you every success with your TTC goals and I hope you get your very soon.

I am currently pregnant with a Femara baby I had been trying for 6 years (on and off due to life challenges) to conceive. I had to have two surgeries in that time (3 in total but the third was when I was very young) to help try and keep my endometriosis under control. My doctors told me that if I waiting too long I may not ever be able to have my own children. I was NOT ready till in my early twenties and they told me that with each passing year my chances dramatically dropped but I had to believe that if and when it was meant to be it would be. My last surgery was on July 17th and the following CY I went on Femara and then took a trigger shoot of Ovidrel and we did timed BD'ing....and I got my very first on Aug. 24th.

My doctor put me strait on Femara as he liked how it helps promote the health of the uterine lining (can help thicken and / or maintain it Vs make it thin) as well as it helps with follicle growth. I did not have to bad S/E's with it.....I had head aches and mood swings but never experienced the hot flashes and nausea. The head aches were more of an annoyance but I have to say the mood swings were the hardest....but I feel the med was NOT fully to blame and that they were part of the stress with everything else in my life as well as all the IF challenges and the dreaded 2WW.

From what I have research Femara is a great drug to help with thickening of your lining, I know Clomid is great at follicle growth but it does coast and thins the uterine lining for lots of women plus I have read the side effects are a lot worse. I am not up on the indictable and how they work in comparison.

Good luck with Femara. I hope you find your special recipe soon!!!! Keep us posted on how you are doing with everything.
